Anyone using Limelight?

GregButcher

So i wanted to have "steam inhome streaming" for android, without buying a shield so i found a nifty app called limelight, its on play store. It basically uses the same stuff that the Nvidia shield does, my Geforce experience even recognizes it as one. All is fine i start up a game and with whatever options, im getting massive packet losses. Im using a Nexus 5 and an ipega-9025s bluetooth controller. Controller seems to work fine if it gets on it, im just wondering how others fare with this, if anybody uses it. Im guessing the problem is that im using a cheap tp-link router(2 antenna 100mbps but only 2.4ghz) and i guess its because the 2.4ghz freq is pretty cluttered? The host pc is connected via cable, and it doesn't seem to matter if i sit under the router or a room next to it.

I know this is a very cheapskate way and all, but when it didnt start to stutter bc packet loss it was fully operational, and ATM i don't have 300 euros or so for a luxury that i don't really need anyways.

I've used the Linux version for Raspberry Pi and it was pretty good. The delay is too great for intense online games, but for say Civ or single player games it great. The only issue I had was it only supported 720p streaming, but I think they've fixed that now. However, i'd recommend a wired connection, which my prove a slight issue on Nexus 5. But you can pick up a Pi for $25 so ya know, if you really wanted a cheap option give it a shot.

Yeah i think i'll pass on spending any money, i have a laptop to wire up to a tv anyway with steam inhome, the goal was to use it as a shield handheld . I guess the crappy cluttered 2.4ghz band and the not-so-top networking in the n5 compared to the shield kills it. I guess if i'd have a wireless AC it would work better, but thats putting down a few hundred bucks again....

Limelight has been great for me at 720p 60fps with about 60ms display lag to my 1st gen Moto X. I have a crappy 2.4Ghz router and havnt had any packet loss from the router to my room (through 2 walls)

I used to be able to use 5Ghz on my Nexus 5....

@spook811 Thx for the confirmation I was almost sure it was bc the not so great router and cluttered wifi space.

Update: actually the wifi is perfectly fine, turns out somehow the bluetooth controller causes a buttload of interference, without that it runs fine and dandy, if i turn it on(don't even need to connect/pair it) it instantly goes to massive packet loss and drops connection. might be that the N5 is acting up with both wifi and bluetooth running? honestly i dunno. and i cant really test it with an xbox controller bc i lost my otg cable xD

Edit :further investigation revealed it's a problem with the Bluetooth chipset, some of them don't like to work while streaming. Seems like no fix for it really :/ would've been nice to play PC games from bed but oh well, 1st world problems... :D
