How to create 2k or 4k textures in photoshop

levsingh
Go to solution Solved by LukaP,

so while creating the uv map i change the res to 4096x4096 and then import into photoshop and do stuff right?

if you want your map to be 4k (you dont generally, unless youre just messing around, or creating a HD tex pack), yes. render the UVW template in 4K, open in PS, work away :)

otherwise, in new games, even tanks and first person weapons are usually max 2K or 2x2K textures

hey guys i have started 3ds max for 3d modellin and i use unrap uv for making the texutre layout and then i use that in photoshop for putting textures on to it, when ever i do that however big the texture is it still doesn't look good in 3ds max even after rendering. so any way to create hi res textures?

what size is the texture? 4096x4096 would be what you want

You should also check your viewport preferences ! There's an option for how much resolution textures can have in the viewport, i think the default value is 512x512 . So even if you load a texture map with more resolution it will still look low res in the viewport. But if it looks bad even after rendering there might be something else thats wrong.
You could post your textures and models here, that would help us to help you

this in viewport options, texture rendering to closest to original.
