UHD TV displays 1080p as native resolution on my pc

Michael

Hello guys, I've tried connecting my gtx 560 on UHD TV(Skyworth 50e790) but it displays 1080p as the highest recommended resolution available.

It is connected via hdmi labeled "4k/2k". My gtx 560(base on specs on nvidia) supports maximum resolution up to 1600p but it doesn't show up on windows settings.

I've tried reading the manual included but it was poorly written and pretty incomplete. I've tried looking on skyworth website but it doesn't have the information that I'm looking for.

Thanks...

Make a custom resolution for UHD using the Nvidia control panel.

I tried that before but still, message flashes on screen saying "1080p @60hz" even tho it is already set at higher resolution.

It might say it supports 1600p, but that 1600p might be over DVI or DP. And HDTVs kinda hate dealing with resolutions that aren't multiples of 1080p, so it would naturally default back to 1080p, wouldn't it?

4K is 2160p, which your graphics adapter probably cannot support.

Perhaps you can try adding 1440p as a custom res (if your TV supports it). That would be 2560 x 1440; I have doubts if the HDMI implementation in your adapter supports anything more than 1080p though.

i'm not sure on this, but 4k only is supported using DVI or DP for PC, and the HDMI on the 560 is probably before the 1.4 version. So that may be why is not working, but im not sure on this.

The GTX 560 is only HDMI 1.3a, which is not 4K compatible. You'll need HDMI 1.4.

I'm now looking for decent priced 600 series card right now and what I found that fits on my budget was 650 ti Boost. Is that a good choice?

And since I will now have a card truly capable of 4k playback, can I use my old hdmi cable? Does hdmi version applies to the cable too?

That's a pretty good choice. It will be a slight performance bump compared to your 560, and it brings HDMI 1.4a which supports 4K at 30Hz.

As for the cable, all you'll need is a standard high-speed HDMI cable. Any cable that's rated for 1080(not 1080i, those are standard-speed HDMI cables) will work with 4K@30Hz.

I've managed to get slightly more powerful card than I originally intended. I have now 660 and I can now output 4k res but at only 30hz but I'm having an issue with audio, it has crackling-ish noise and stutters. The noise and stuttering seems to only appear when I'm on res higher than 1080p. My on-board audio of my mobo is out of the option right now because it's having an issue too(no sound except high pitch noise) and I'll try to deal with that later.

And one more thing, I've read specs of 660 and it can display 4k at 60hz via display port. Can I use a dp to hdmi adapter to display 4k at 60hz? Assuming that my uhd tv can handle it.

Thanks for response even this thread is quite old right now... :)

No, if your TV does not have a DisplayPort input itself, you can't get 4K@60Hz with your 660. However I doubt that your TV has HDMI 2.0, it seems to be an older model of 4K TV and I doubt it supports 4K@60Hz.
