Are ASRock as rocked as they should be?

Go to solution Solved by H4X3R,

I used 2 of their boards. Both are running strong without problems. I can recommend them :)

The 990FX Killer is the best out of them as it has many new features which those old mobos don't have like better onboard audio, killer lan (if you're into that), IMO better colour scheme, nice BIOS, etc.

The horrible joke aside, are ASrock reliable? I hear a lot of people say that their boards are faulty, and others saying very dependable.

For my build, I've chosen a white/black/red-ish build. (Using an NZXT H440)

I'm being torn across a few boards,

The ASROCK 990FX Killer

The Gigabyte GA-99FXA-UD3

The Gigabyte GA-99FXA-UD5

The UD3 is the cheapest, The UD5 the most expensive, the the ASrock in the middle.

I'm not buying solely on looks, the specs of the ASrock don't seem too bad, and neither is the price.

So what do you guys think? Should I go for the Gigabyte UD3, 5, or the asrock?

The CPU I'm going with is the FX-8350, so I'll probably overlock also.

Thanks in advance for any replies.

theyre reliable... they used to be a division under ASUS for the shitty stuff, then they separated, and now asus wants them back because they know how to make quality mobos.

dont go AM3+ believe me. youll end up at the same price as going with a 4690k and a cheap z97 board, plus you wont need to get an expensive cooler to overclock

I've had a better experience (Exept for the audio) with my ASRock Pro4 than i had with my old ASUS P8Z77-V pro

Asrock builds pretty solid motherboards, especially their recent ones. When most people bash them, they are just sad that its not an Asus product. For your build though I would either go with the Asrock or the UD3. The only reason why I say this, is because the UD5 is one PITA motherboard to deal with. Its very unstable for the price, however the UD3 doesn't have nearly as many problems. I built 5 systems with the UD5 and all 5 of them came back, and the UD5 that I have in my workstation has been a fun time to get stable(its finally stable after two years and now runs beta bios, lol).

The Asrock should be good, but if you do go with Gigabyte the UD3 is the one to get(the UD3 could be described as a tank now that I think about it).

I quite like ASRock boards. However some of their AM3+ boards are a bit crappy. Remember they're a 2010 design and 2011 release.

But the 990FX Killer is great for the price.

Were they really low end ones though? I know you have a nForce 630a board that died.

One was fairly high end (it was one of their best 939 boards).

Well 939 was the days that ASRock was ASUS' low end manufacturing arm so I'm not surprised...

Trust me though, on the mid-high end LGA1150 they're making solid boards.

How is an ASRock Z97 Pro3?

Intel LAN, heatsinked powerphase, decent amount of SATA and a single GPU x16 slot.

Pretty OK. How much does it cost and what's another board at a similar price point?

I'm between these two

http://pcpartpicker.com/part/asus-motherboard-h97plus

and

http://pcpartpicker.com/part/asrock-motherboard-z97pro3

Z97 is $75, H97 is closer to $90

Although I don't know if they're comparable because different companies

Well the Z97 is probably the better deal particularly if you want to use a overclockable CPU. But the H97 supports CFX.

Not going to overclock CPU, maybe GPU a bit. Probably going with Z97 for money issues
