Cases for ASUS x99-E WS (SSI CEB)

slickplaid

I am building a workstation computer for work and *really* want to use the new Define R5 for it.

My other want is an ASUS x99-E WS motherboard.

Are these mutually exclusive given that the ASUS x99-E WS motherboard is an SSI CEB form factor instead of an ATX variant?

I'm trying to build it out on pcpartpicker and when I go to add a case, there are only two, rather hideous options. (Cooler Master Cosmos II and the Rosewill RISE)

Does anyone know of some better options for this build or if I actually could fit that motherboard into the Define R5?

Here is my planned setup: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/thQ6mG

Wouldn't you be just fine with the deluxe model of the Asus X-99, it's still good for a workstation.

Dom plat RAM, Corsair PSU and overpriced NF-A14's? I take it you're not paying the bill.. :P

If you do want to save some monies, you could go with a EVGA PSU, GSkill RAM and Rosewill Hyperborea 140 fan.

Also if you're getting a 280mm AIO the Kraken X61 or Nepton 280L would be better.

My business is footing the bill. You'd be surprised what this workstation does and reliability is paramount, hence the overpriced enterprise-ish stuff.

I'll look into those options. We are still once the fence between that processor or just going all out Xeon for 128GB+ of ECC RAM. If that's the path we choose, the case becomes a null point since we'd be moving into server grade chassis at that point.

It's really hard to bridge the gap with enthusiast grade hardware and workstation/server grade stuff when you're right on the cusp for functionality. Once you make that transition the price doubles or triples in a lot of cases, which gets rough when rationalizing the purchase.

With your suggestions, I've modified the build so we could use the Define R5 and just daisy chain the Displays through a Quadro 6k and have  the 980ti when it comes out be there for any graphics testing that needs to be done. We have a few 780s that we could pile in there if needed for the amount of monitors we'll be using.

Surprisingly, it doesn't save a ton of money. Looks like we're talking saving a few hundred dollars when the overall cost is in the thousands. But hey, a saving money is always good as long as it doesn't affect reliability.

Looks good, reliability will be excellent.

I'm studying to become a controller so savings always matter even if its a few bucks. It adds up real fast.

Silverstone ft05 fits it, and is the best air cooling case, has great build quality, and is tiny (But can fit SSI CEB)

Smaller than any other ATX case (other than s340 but that dcoesnt have SSI CEB)

Or rv05 for a cheaper, more plastic varient of same frame

SSI CEB is just E-eatx, if i remember correctly

Edit: I recommend Enthoo Pro or Enthoo Primo if you want to shell out for some pretty lights.

Specs: 4790k | Asus Z-97 Pro Wifi | MX100 512GB SSD | NZXT H440 Plastidipped Black | Dark Rock 3 CPU Cooler | MSI 290x Lightning | EVGA 850 G2 | 3x Noctua Industrial NF-F12's

Bought a powermac G5, expect a mod log sometime in 2015

Corsair is overrated, and Anime is ruined by the people who watch it

I am a little old for pretty lights :)

I think you're right on the SSI CEB being the same size as E-ATX (305x330mm for both). It looks like even the mounting holes are the same.

I would love to get a MAGNUM TX10-D (hue hue) But the ~$900+ price tag for a *case* is a bit offsetting.

The FT05 is pretty lame that it only supports 2x5-1/4 drives and 2 SSDs. It might have worked and says it supports E-ATX/SSI CEB

I might just go ahead and grab the Antec Titan650 if I can find one without a power supply and figure out if it'll fit that power supply I have in my build.

That, or simply downsize to the ATX Deluxe variant of the motherboard. Still on the fence.

Several silverstone cases and the cooler master cosmos II support it

PC is Intel Core i5 6400, GIgabyte H170 Gaming 3, Corsair Vengeance LPX 2x4GB 2400Mhz ,Sandisk Ultra Plus 128GB, WD Blue 1TB, NZXT S340, ASUS Geforce GTX 960. Fractal Design Tesla R2 650W. http://au.pcpartpicker.com/p/793XNG. Graphics card choices don't always have to be dictated on performance. If you want the game stream and power consumption of the GTX 970 get that. If you want raw performance of the R9 390 get that. In the end we are all gamers, so what if your buddy gets an extra 5 fps?

Didn't look at your build, you have allot of hard drives.

Check out ft04 and ft02

Yeah, they are used with a controller in raid 6. I'll check out those cases. Thanks for the input.
