Hyper 212 EVO Different Ways to Install?

Looking how to install the 212 in an AM3+ motherboard and I noticed there is two different ways to install it?

Is there a reason why it's like that? What's the difference? Which would be the ideal one to do. Case is an S340 using only the stock fans if it can help with the question.

I always install my cooler blowing air from front to back. Especially in decent airflow cases like the S340. Blowing upwards draws unnecessary heat from your GPU, and blowing down blows unnecessary heat onto your GPU.

I always install my cooler blowing air from front to back. Especially in decent airflow cases like the S340. Blowing upwards draws unnecessary heat from your GPU, and blowing down blows unnecessary heat onto your GPU.

 

Yeah... no. I have my cooler blowing air out from top. It isn't any different from what regular front to back was doing in terms of temps. If, and only if, there isn't one PCIex1 slot between GPU and cooler there could be problem with heat from GPU. Honestly ACX style cooler blot air to all directions, not towards CPU.

 

Though should be noted that I'm also for regular orientation when case is using only single rear exhaust or user doesn't want to use top mounts to exhaust (like storing stuff on top of it). Horizontal orientation benefits when there are 2 top fans exhausting the heat from CPU cooler.

Just because a GPU is reference/blower and doesn't spit hot air back into the case from the cooler, doesn't mean that the PCB itself doesn't generate heat.

Still. If there is one empty slot between card and cpu cooler it doesn't have any significant effect on cooling.
