Plugged in, not charging. Dell Latitude 3330 Laptop

Hey LinusTechTips, any computersawy people in here with knowledge around batteries and chargers?

So what is wrong is that my Dell Latitude 3330 has been stuck in 39% power the whole afternoon since I got back from school. When I hover over the battery icon with my marker it reads the message "Plugged in, not charging". I cannot figure out why it wont charge, Someone said it might be a dead battery, but I have only had it for one and a half year. And the program BatteryInfoView states it is fully functional and still only at 87% wear level. Restarting the computer did not help, checking the charger to make sure everything was plugged in right, and I even tried dusting the plug that goes in the back of the laptop. Any suggestions?

I have the PC through school, and could hand it over to the IT department, but I have kinda been overstepping my rights a teensy weensy bit. I would hate for them to find out I have gained administrator rights through some clever computing, and reset everything so I must start over. Or worse, be in danger of loosing my PC. I have paid for it, but technicaly it is not "mine" until I finish school, so if I could fix this problem myself that would be great. Any help is much apreciated.

So what should I do? Get a new battery, charger, or is this a software problem that re-activating some clever function will fix? Maybe it charges when the PC is shut down?

Your Laptops Batter has blown out, Battery is dead or the charging connection to the Charger to the Batter or the Laptop is broken.

If you pull the charger out when the laptop is powered and the laptop turns off then its a dead/malfunctioning Battery

Like I said, battery is working fine. Most likely the charger that is malfunctioning. Going to borrow another to see is that works, If so, I need a new charger. If not, Im shit out of luck.

It's a Dell. This means that because of their push for profit, they do some rather annoying things to get what they want. One of the things they do is make chargers that only charge when the computer can identify it. Over time the charger cable wears out and becomes faulty. This could be your issue. Try a different charger and see what happens.
