Good upgrade from an HD4770 vor editing

Howdy, all. I'm on a train right now, "looking forward" to the 9 hour ride and my mind is starting to wander.

I use my computer mainly for photo/video editing and some gaming now and then, and wanted to know if you fine chaps had any advice regarding a good upgrade to my ancient graphics card. I'm looking for an improvement in rendering speed in Premiere, so anything decent with OpenCL or CUDA support would work.

I can even look for a second-hand card if it fits the bill, but market prices vary wildly from one country to another, so that may not be an option.

Fits what bill? No price listed? I'd personally recommend something like a 970 or r9 290 though

Desktop: i7-4790k, Samsung 840 EVO 250GB, Seagate Barracuda 3TB, 2xR9 290 Vapor-X's (1 working atm), Asus Z97-Pro, NZXT H440 White, 16GB G. Skill Sniper RAM, NZXT HALE V90 850W.

Laptop: Samsung Chromebook 11.6"

If you are using OpenCL/OpenGL or CUDA, a graphics card upgrade will be significant.

Waaay above my budget if I'm considering second-hand cards. I should have specified that I'm considering previous gen units. Current gen I can just get new

Are my eyes deceiving me, or is OpenCL performance better on AMD cards? This fits the bill as I favor ex-ATI products.

Correct.

AMD cards perform much better with OpenCL / OpenGL.

NVidia cards perform much better with CUDA.

AMD / ATi focuses on OpenCL/OpenGL, while NVidia focuses on CUDA.

So...you need to pick one of the two.
