[Discussion] How much you spent on your computer

thir02

With my current build, I'd say around 1400USD. I'll chuck in a new monitor soon so that's gonna be >1500USD.

Oh yeah, I'm gonna need an SSD soon so I have to live off water again.  :(

I'm not gonna put a spec list, but over time (from first to current pc) somewhere around $7k probably.

Yay danish taxes (usually 25%-40% price increase from the US)

actually those taxes are not bad. You have way higher wages than the US and that system mostly benefits you! So it might seem more expensive but keep in mind that in the US a pizza delivering guy might only get like 4$ plus tips per hour...

Its not as easy as just calculation how much you could buy if you exchanged the money.

I spent ~$700 USD when I first built my personal rig 5 years ago or so.

Since then I have purchased/traded new parts and sold off all the old.

Interestingly, I do not have a single piece of hardware that was originally in my computer still in it. (last to go was my HDDs which I replaced a few months ago)

The total Net Cost of my current computer taking into account everything I've spent and everything I've sold is probably lower than $1,500

With that said, I would consider my setup to be worth over $3,000

Current Specs:

  • Case - Corsair 350D
  • CPU - Intel 4770k @ 4.6GHz
  • Mobo - Gigabyte Z97 Gaming 5
  • RAM - Corsair Vengeance Pro 16GB(2x8GB @ 2444MHz)
  • GPU - 2 x Sapphire 7970 DualX @ Core - 1100MHz Memory - 1450MHz
  • PSU - Corsair 750HX
  • Storage -
    • 2 x 240GB Corsair Force 3 GT (Raid 0)
    • 2 x 3TB Western Digital Red (Raid 1)
  • Optical -
    • LG Bluray Burner
    • Some card reader tucked tightly in the top slot
  • Cooling
    • Corsair H100i with 2 Corsair SP120 Silent Edition
    • 3 Corsair AF120 Silent Edition
  • Peripherals
    • 3 Samsung 1080P Monitors
    • Creative Sound Blaster Tactic 3D Omega
    • Tt-sport Poseidon with MX browns and clear dampeners
    • Razer Deathadder
    • Elgato HD60
    • Microsoft xbox accessory thing
    • Logitech webcam

Haha lol thats not true.

Not even people who earn shitloads of money do:

"The sum of all income tax percentages (municipal income tax, state income taxes and the central government income tax financing health care in the Regions called health care contribution (Danish: Sundhedsbidrag)) cannot exceed 51.5"

-wikipedia

and thats not too much. I mean someone who earns shitloads has to contribute to society because they make more use of roads etc.

Also you have a minimum amount of money you have to earn so you have to pay taxes at all...

Hmm. Well the tower itself was about £1,400. After having to switch out both the PSU and Mobo after they died. But with the monitor I have, the keyboards I have and the mice I go through on a bimonthly basis, excluding the one I have now. That mouse if a real tough bugger. About £2,000.

What do they know of England, who only England know?

lol typo, yeah 50 is right.

"I mean someone who earns shitloads has to contribute to society because they make more use of roads etc" Absolutely, but stuff like that's also being paid through our 200% car registration/taxes

As a little side note, I never was good at debating and i never enjoyed doing it.

Your perception of this is clearly different from mine, who's right doesn't really matter. That's the last you'll hear from me on this ;)
