First Build

MrGibberish

Hey all.

Happy Thanksgiving and everything. So, I've finally saved up enough money to build a decent computer. Heres the the list right now:

CPU: AMD Athlon X4 860K 3.7GHz Quad-Core Processor  ($75.04 @ Mwave)
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler  ($29.98 @ OutletPC)
Thermal Compound: Arctic Silver 5 High-Density Polysynthetic Silver 3.5g Thermal Paste  ($3.98 @ OutletPC)
Motherboard: ASRock FM2A88X Extreme4+ ATX FM2+ Motherboard  ($75.99 @ Amazon)
Memory: Kingston Fury Series 8GB (1 x 8GB) DDR3-1866 Memory  ($64.15 @ SuperBiiz)
Storage: Sandisk Ultra II 120GB 2.5" Solid State Drive  ($71.95 @ Adorama)
Storage: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive  ($48.49 @ OutletPC)
Video Card: PowerColor Radeon R9 285 2GB TurboDuo Video Card  ($174.99 @ NCIX US)
Case: Cooler Master N400 ATX Mid Tower Case  ($54.99 @ Micro Center)
Power Supply: EVGA 600B 600W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply  ($44.99 @ Newegg)
Optical Drive: Asus DRW-24B1ST/BLK/B/AS DVD/CD Writer  ($16.99 @ Newegg)
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 8.1 (32/64-bit)  ($94.99 @ B&H)
Monitor: AOC e2752Vh 60Hz 27.0" Monitor  ($159.99 @ Best Buy)
Wireless Network Adapter: TP-Link TL-WDN4800 802.11a/b/g/n PCI-Express x1 Wi-Fi Adapter  ($34.00 @ SuperBiiz)
Total: $950.52

So the goal of this comp is light to mid gaming (occasional heavy gaming sometimes), with the main function as an all around computer for family. My budget is $1000, and I'm open to suggestions (not to attached to the parts, but I did some research on them). I will say that the monitor isn't that flexible (Still want 27").
Thanks for the time.

Thanks for your input. Unfortunately, I have to include a monitor and wireless adapter with the budget. I will say, that for the under $1000, that still seems like a pretty good build.

Hmm.. Interesting. I think that is actually around what I'm aiming for in terms of performance. Thanks. I'll update later when I get everything.

Happy Thanksgiving.

You shouldn't take that build as the 1155 socket is gonna get outdated better off getting a 1150 with a i5-4460 which is not overclockable but has a superb stock performance and will be more then enough. Plus the fact a 1150 means no Mobo upgrading in the future and still able to get a 4690k or 4790k later on to upgrade and OC. also the i5-4460 is 60 dollars cheaper and as the mobo will be not much more expensive you have 40-50 dollars to spend elsewhere like the GPU.

Much better build everything included what you took, but a awesome fully modular PSU, could go cheaper on that to go under 1000 dollar. For the rest I changed MoBo and CPU and GPU, Mobo has crossfire so don't worry xD and the CPU is super good for gaming no problems and the GPU is good enough and the best I could get for that price point.

Why are you speccing a 2 gen old cpu ? You can get a current gen Haswell i5 4690K for less.
