Need 6 new fans!

sugalumps
Go to solution Solved by loccilucas,

They look great but sadly I will only deal with amazon now because of their returns, so that means sticking to more mainstream fans. I guess I wont get the best quality silence after all, but I am willing to settle here and there.

So if Im settling what should it be?

4 aerocool dead silence and 2 sp quiets for radiator  : £72

4 cougars and 2 sp quiets for the radiator     : £74

6 aerocools     : £75

6 cougars        : £78

6 noctua f12s  : £105  :(

6 of something else available there?

Out of them I would go for the Noctua, because I sit really close to my PC and i'm obsessed with it being silent.

If you don't wanna spend the money, I would go for your 3rd option, all 6 aerocools.

However they do still sell NB on amazon http://www.amazon.co.uk/Noiseblocker-PL1-BlackSilent-Pro-Case/dp/B0083ACZAW/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1417111680&sr=8-4&keywords=noiseblocker

These are also very good and quiet http://www.amazon.co.uk/Silverstone-SST-AP121-12cm-Air-Penetrator/dp/B003THXMQA/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1417111820&sr=8-2&keywords=silverstone+air+penetrator

Need 6 new fans to go inside my aging nzxt 410, all 3 pin as I will be running them from a fan controller I just ordered: Nzxt sentry mix 2.  Must be quiet as possible and from amazon UK, and would love to keep them under £15 a fan if possible.

2 120mm fans for the h100i radiator as exhaust: was thinking about dual pack of the corsair sp120 quiet editions, no experience with these though, will they be loud?

2 for the front intake : Either the cougars http://www.amazon.co.uk/Compucase-CF-V12H-Hydro-Dynamic-Bearing-MTBF300/dp/B0050TRLGW/ref=pd_sim_computers_1?ie=UTF8&refRID=1E7D4D567RK7KDZS0KVT

                                   Or the aerocool ds http://www.amazon.co.uk/Aerocool-Dead-Silence-12cm-Material/dp/B00GK9MHMO/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1417103618&sr=8-2&keywords=Aerocool+ds+120m

Or is it better to go with 2 more of the sp quiets for static pressure at the front, though I have removed the HDD cage so there is not much restriction.

1 exaust at the rear : Again either the cougar or aerocool

1 at the side intaking air to cool my gtx 980 msi gaming : again either the cougar or aerocool, but does it really make a difference having a side fan blowing on the gpu and h100i block direction.

Any other recommendations are welcome, I know it would be best to just grab 6 noctua nf12's but at £17.50 a fan and the colours it's kinda hard to justify unless they really are that much better than the cougars/aerocools/other choices.

Would love to but I really dont want to spent £20 on a single fan(how much the be quiets are on amazon) as this is turning out to be an expensive winter remodel in the quest for silence :P , started off by replacing my loud 780 for a 980 and my crappy corsair bronze psu has started buzzing/grinding so I am going to grab the evga supernova to go along with all the fans.

Did you mean to link a specific fan from Ocuk or did you mean the aerocools and cougers are miles quieter than the corsairs as the link takes me to the home page of ocuk.

Sorry don't know why that happened, I meant to link this http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=FG-032-NB

Awesome thankyou I must have missed them, they have both the PL1 and PL2 version for the same price which one should I go for and are they suitable for rads so I can just order 6 and keep it simple?

The PL1's have a max RPM of 900 and the PL2's 1400.

So I would go for the PL2's on the rad so you have the extra speed for load temps and the PL1's for the case as they can run at lower RPM's and be really quiet.

I like my Cougars, my old room mate likes his. Mine are just case fans his are case and rad fans. We bought Vortex PWM's over the regular Vortex fans you linked but they're still great. You can also buy them with black blades if you didn't know that. Could also save money by going with Cougar Turbines.

Well do they sound the same at similar rpms, it's just that the PL2's can go higher? If so I am going to be putting them through a fan controller so it would make more sense to grab 6 of the 1400 rpm ones and can set them to different speeds accordingly but have the option to take them past 900rpm if needed. Since they are the same price and all. Also are they able to move as much air as the aerocools/cougars while maintaining the better acoustics?

Yeah go for the 1400 if you want then, as they sound similar at the same RPM, I don't think they push as much air as the aerocools however, but the difference is not that big considering there is quite a noticeable sound difference (not saying the Aerocools are loud, they are very quiet but the NB's are just extremely quiet).

I was unable to find what specs the aerocools on amazon are anyway, apparntly we have different versions from the NA upgraded aerocools that go up to 1500rpm.  I think they are the ones that only go to 1000rpm, so 6 of those would not bode well for the rad.

So if I am settling it's 100% the Noiseblocker blacksilentpro pl2's.

Though I am undecided wither I should settle or go all out on the 6 noctua fans. I have come this far with the best gpu I could afford and upgrading to a premium psu within my wattage bracket, the completionist is saying get the best fans as you have come this far but my wallet is saying save like £40+ on fans please.

If I was to go all 6 noctua which ones am I supposed to get, its rather confusing how many models they have. They have the nf-p12 and the nf-f12 then the nf-s12A and I have no idea which one is ideal, silence is the most important aspect though obviously I want a good balance and good static fans for the rad(not sure which version suits that)?

you could just fill your case with deltas. At least everything would be cool then.

Laptop - Lenovo X230 Intel 535 480GB, 16GB Gskill memory, Classic Keyboard Mod, Triple USB 3.0 Express Card.

If you are gonna do that, you could get the noise blockers for case fans and use 2 nf-f12's on the rad as at least the noise blockers look alright. However don't forget if silence is the most important issue your h100i is probably gonna have some pump noise though.

Ye I have been thinking that may be a problem as at times I can hear the h100i pump even over the noisy stock fans, I may end up having to replace it with an nh-d14/d15 if it's to noisy when all my new fans are in. Seriously what a mistake that was, I had a d14 in my last build and went with the h100i for the extra work space and cleaner/slicker look, if anyone comes accross this by mistake and is deciding between a CLC and a top end air cooler go with the nhd14/d1 as you will eventualy want to replace the fans on the h100i then replace is all together as the pump noise is annoying you will also constantly need to be changing fan speeds as they are noisy compared to the d14 that you can plug in and leave it silent forever.

Well my nzxt mesh 2 fan controller came and it's not a good fit for the nzxt 410, you cannot screw it in or keep it down so it will be moving. Upon opening up to rewire the fan controller in and get ready for my psu I noticed that the nzxt 410's built in controller can control 6 3 pin fans not just 3 which I originaly thought(I am a moron). So the controller is going back, the only problem is now I cannot use pwm fans right? It has to be exclusively 3 pins for the 410's built in controller. Or do the noctua nf-f12s come with a 4 pin to 3 pin adapter and will the 3 pin 30w built in fan controller handle pwm fans with adapaters.

If so that would be perfect, as the £26 I save sending back the fan controller would make up the difference ot noctua fans and I would be happy grabbing 6 of the nf-f12's/nf-p12s.

Snip

As far as I can remember (At college at the moment so I'll check when I get back) the built in controller only supports 3 pin fans, however I'm pretty sure you can cut the plastic on the fan controller so a PWM will fit.

As for the 30 watts, it's plenty

Right ok I will gow ith 6 noctua fans, as to wich I am not exactly sure. It's either 6 nf-p12's or 2 nf-f12's for the rad and 4 nf-p12's for the case fans. Though the nf-p12 shifts similar air while being quieter right? So would it make more sense to go with 6 of those instead of 4 and 2 nf-f12s.

Also my motherboard(http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/MSI/Z87-G45_GAMING/4.html) has 5 pwm fan headers will I be able to use the included pwm y splitters to hook up two noctua pwm fans to three of the headers on the motherboard and how does that work for controlling the speeds? Will it set them automatically depending on temperature or do I need to set a fan carve or manualy adjust them every time through the bios?

Ended up ordering two nf-f12s for the rad and 3 nf-s12a's for case fans and will see if I need another for the side intake at a later date.

Thank you locc.

As a owner of one Delta fan can confirm.
