AMD atikmdag.sys Bluescreen issue

Hello there. And thank you for taking intrest.

For the last 2 months, (1st of Oct @ 17:36:02, 29th of Oct @ 16:41:45, 10th of Nov @ 23:03:14 & 26th of Nov @ 23:08:17.) Have I had 4 Bluescreens. The first one is related to ksecpkg.sys. But the other 3 are related to atikmdag.sys.

I have quickly asked Google, but the only results that I have found are only related to ATI. This sadly cannot help me, as I have both AMD CPU and AMD G. card. ( AMD A8-6410 APU with AMD R5 Radeon Graphics @ 2.00 GHz & AMD Radeon R7 M260 )

I have noticed that the others 3 happened only when I wanted to start a video. I don't know if this will help any.

My knowlegde with AMD is highly limitied, if not less, I'm afraid.

I followed the guide here -> http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=363233

However, I did not check to see if I could do all the steps. And I encountered a halt at Step 3. I do not have an ATI folder. I also though, have 4 other atikmdag.sys files.

UPDATE! I completely forgot to say this, but twice before the crash, did this happen!

Hatsjer Out!

You need to uninstall your current drivers and reinstall. most likely something's accessing something it shouldn't.

Next time it happens, let it restart, then go into the even viewer and post a screenshot of that.

Welcome to the club buddy. I've been dealing with a similar shit-storm and odds are there is no current fix. The latest catalyst drivers are so broken that AMD actually made an announcement about it. If you can give me some bsod error codes I might be able to help. If it is what I think it is though, installing and reinstalling won't help. Pull up a seat and get comfy, we're all going to be dealing with this until the next functional driver release.

Thanks for letting me know.

I have never heard about BSOD error codes before. Do you mean (In my case) 0xa0000001 ?

That is the only thing Google is pointing me at.

Seems that your installation is corrupted. Could you try a full uninstall with this tool

http://fichiers.touslesdrivers.com/41085/amdcleanuputility.exe

This will erase all amd related files on your computer

Then install catalyst 14.11.1

http://support.amd.com/en-us/kb-articles/Pages/AMDCatalyst14-11-1BetaWINReleaseNotes.aspx

Thanks for the tip. I'll look into it.

Yes, that would be the BSOD error code. How often do you get the blue screens and when does it typically happen? (during games, web browsing, idling, etc)

When I tried to start a video. (Youtube, Gif)

Computer was running at 50% (ish) 2 of those times.

It sounds like you have the same bug I do. All I can recommend is updating your motherboard's bios and reseating your GPU, I tried that and now I only get bluescreens occasionally when I leave the computer idling overnight.

Try turning off hardware acceleration. Or roll back a driver and or use CCleaner and remove the drivers and install fresh ones.

NEVER GIVE UP. NEVER STOP LEARNING. DONT LET THE PAST HURT YOU. YOU CAN DOOOOO IT

  • 6 months later...

I'm also facing this issue that is why I am planning to upgrade PC. But if you guys know the solution to it? Let me know.

There are no secrets to success. It is the result of preparation, hard work, and learning from failure.
