I was about to get one, then I read the negative reviews.  There's another thread here with a link to the XFX 290.

How's the XFX 290?

I have a version 4.1 xfx DD 290. Runs at ~75, not to loud on load. Looks amazing, has a light up XFX logo. No complaints, customer service is excellent too

@maskey  Hm.. forget me.  Evidently I was confused and thought those were both the same $200 (post-rebate) card.   The one from the OP seems to have more reviews, and a better average.  I should read those.

How's the XFX 290?

I just got the XFX 290, I've heard really good things about it. I think the bad reviews are from people that think the card is going to run under load at like 55C, which is ridiculous for a non-water cooled 290, and complain when its at load at 65-75C which is perfectly fine. they have a lifetime warranty which is freaking sweet, but I noticed that the $239 version doesn't come with any of the promo games that all the other 290's come with. I contacted them about it and I hope they give them too me because I would really like to have them and It really seems like they should be in there, If they are not I'll be quite upset.

Looks like the free game comes with the other r9 290.

Also, I noticed this requires a 750W PSU. Is that a hard requirement? I have a 700 watt, and if need to upgrade it I may as well just buy a 970.

Thanks!

Nope you'll be fine. I ran a 290 on a 500w PSU just fine. I have a bronze PSU and I pull ~360 from the wall tops during gaming. Factor in PSU efficiency and its even less.

Wow it's incredibly long.   According to the spec sheets of my case and this card, it would fit with only 2mm to spare.

I'd go in your case and measure yourself with a ruler to be sure

If I didn't care so much about PhysX definitely a card I'd get at that crazy price.

Too many ****ing games!  Back log 4 life! :S

Reading the positive comments about it convinced me. I just ordered it. (I've never heard of Physx though, what is it?)

Now I should look for some one that would trade/buy the Beyond Earth code it comes with because we already have it.

Physx is a technology nvidia bought back in the day... It's used in metro LL and that's about it. Basically, it improves particle physx at the cost of framerate... MHO, not worth considering as modern AAA games don't have it.

It looks like a modest number of games use it.

You can hack it to work on your AMD gpu as well. I can turn Physx on ultra in Borderlands the Pre Sequel with my r9 270x...but that tanks my fps down to the 40's, so it's on medium for 60fps.
