Spectrum Aura - smartphone w/ 4000 MAH Battery for $150

Source

So these guys seem to be offering a 4000mAh battery smartphone for $149.99??!!

This company is apparently is a small startup from LA called Spectrum, and their phone will be delivered Feb 9, 2015. Kind of a long time to wait, but it is a generally a new idea and also they're apparently running some sort crowdfunding/"kickstarter" thing, so that would explain the wait. It doesn't look bad though, it's running stock android kitkat, a 13 MP camera, 5" 1280x720 IPS display, dual sim slots, micro sd expansion, and the removable battery is a nice touch.

It has a mediatek chip and it doesn't support 4G but everything else seems great for a budget device. they have a couple phones, but their Aura seems to be their bigger phone. They also deliver internationally, which is pretty cool.

they’re offering another phone, with a 3000 mah for $99. These guys look like they’re pushing for bigger batteries for cheaper prices.

I'm thinking of pre-ordering one as a travel device if these guys are legit, since the big battery would help. i wonder if linus will do a video on this or something.

In my opinion I think 5" is perfect. With Google creating a 6" nexus, its nice to see that some companies aren't jumping on the phablet wagon.

I wouldnt preorder, i want someone to take a look first. But since no big companies want to make a flagship phone at 4.7-5.2in, maybe its time for someone smaller to try to fill the gap.

Sounds like someones a Phaplet fan.

If this had 4g(or a $50 more 4g version) I'd probably pre-order one just to check out but I still require my daily driver to be waterproof.

Sounded good until I saw it doesn't support 4G, kind of absurd

Not really. For 149$ I'd let it slide.

It kind of looks like the Oneplus One. However, it's not really hard to look like the one as the display layout is pretty basic.

Well, comparing it to the Moto G which also lacks 4G and which costs $180, the Aura seems way better with the bigger battery and better camera costing $150

Holy crap this is perfect for me. 720p, so nice res, but not stupidly high as I don't really care at all about a phones res. Massive battery, so that I don't have to worry about charging it religiously. And a killer price, as well as a manageable screen size with stock Android.

I'm very interested in reviews of this. Seeing the combination of screen resolution and battery size, this should last through 3 days of normal use. Finally some company gets it that we don't want the thinnest smartphone, but one with a massive battery.

It has big battery, shitty screen and processor so battery will last like half a day anyway.

I would rather have it be another 50 or so for 4G

The Moto G without 4G shouldn't be in production anymore AFAIK, the one I bought just a month ago has 4G.

It also has a better processor. And it looks like this Spectrum doesn't have SD card support either.

I'll take all of the above things over the theoretically better camera (in fact, I'd rather not have a camera on my phone at all)

But the battery is nice, I must admit.

In case the moderators do not ban me as requested, this is a notice that I have left and am not coming back.

Sub-Full HD screen, nameless MediaTek chip and an old version of Android. Slow down guys leave some innovation for the rest.

EXACTLY!! If it had wireless charging, it would be the only phone id ever need. tho the big battery might offset that

for a price less than one fifth of flagships that are supposed to innovate

The website states its got an SD Card Slot. Also, I meant the 2014 Moto G. the one with the 5" screen. the 2013 Moto G has 4G but costs $219, and it seems like this phone is catered towards international customers, mostly for countries that haven't adopted 4G that much. I will agree on the processor part. If this phone somehow gets Lollipop, performance is bound to be good.

  • 1 month later...

Huh, speaking of big batteries, there is a Highscreen Boost 2 SE, released in the beginning of 2014 (the third generation of 'Boost', which was released baack in February 2013). It based on the concept of two batteries (3000 and 6000 mAh - both included, plus additional back cover), so you could choose between bulkiness and thinness, depending on situation.

379277.jpg

The specs are pretty standard for a early-2014 smartphone, like 5" IPS 720p display, 13 MP (2 Mp front) camera, Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 w/ 2Gb RAM and 8Gb of internal storage (SD card supported). And now, with currency devaluation, it costs around $200. I don't have one, sadly, but people say, that they could actively use it for 3 days with bigger battery. I don't know, if they are going to release something new in this year, though.

Also, they have Highscreen Alpha R with 2000/4000 mAh battery, which has 5" IPS fullHD screen, but based on a 4-core MediaTek chip w/ 1Gb of RAM and 4Gb of internal storage. 8MP camera is bad. Although it cost is around $120 right now...

They are both unlocked and support dual-SIM, so... I am not impressed. But it's not available outside of Russia, sadly

And failing to act, for fear of the risk, is no different than a living death. No matter what world you’re in.
