Micca Speakers and Lepai Amplifyer Help

HighTech Media

So I just got my Micca MB42x Bookshelf speakers with the lepai lp 2020a+ amplifyer and it works and sounds great. The only problem that I have is that I can't turn the volume control circle past half way without hearing some distortion or the lepai amp just turn off by itself; what causes this problem?

Common problem with the Lepai. It's just not as great as it seems.

Latest revisions are all-right, but you can do much better for your money.

Did you try with tone control bypassed? Where did you buy the Lepai?

It does have enough power to drive the speakers, but not to levels which OP wants seemingly.

15W should be plenty, but the Lepai doesn't have that great of a pcb design and component choice.

Even 1W would power them... You know what I wanted to say :)

Im kinda a noob with this stuff lol sorry. I bought the amp from amazon cause it was the best seller. I just cant pick up the volume to 100 without it turning offf, it only can go to 50% and 60% on certain songs. I did not know the amplifyer really mattered, is there an amplifyer that you recommend?

the stock lepai power supply is only 12v at 2a if I remember correctly, so it's only 24w, but the amp claims to be 20x2w so if you are trying to get true 40w out of it the powersupply chokes.

this should help

Will work for electronic components and parts

The amp can't deliver 20 watts at 12v. That's impossible. It's more like 13 usable watts at best.

According to P=U^2/2R, 3A should be enough at 12v with 4 ohm speakers. But 5A will ofc also do the job.

Not sure if a better PSU will fix the problem, the distortion seems to be 'normal' with the LP2020A's

I made a list of amps I recommend, with the Lepai being the lowest quality:

They don't have a fancy case or tone control, but they deliver quality rather than features ;p
