Typical AMD x Intel question... Casual multitask-gaming

GuiLobo

So guys, I am building a new PC but I need to settle this Motherboard-CPU issue...

Right now I am getting an i5-4440 with MSI Z97 (for a possible upgrade in the future), but I was wondering if I could get an AMD processor with another motherboard to cut the price on those items for about-less than 100 dollars each and still get a good performance for some casual MMO gaming (Starcraft II, Dota 2, Archeage) while skyping/raidcall and internet browsing

The possibility with overclocking is also a good call, I just cut that on the intel's K line due to the price atm...

For the games you intend to play, you have to have Intel.  MMOs just flat out don't run well on FX processors.  I would say, save up until you have enough for an unlocked i5, you can't be more than $50 from your goal.  MMOs are games that really benefit from overclocking.

If you are buying a 4440, you can get a cheap b85 board saving you money

Keep the i5

I have a FX-6100 and i overclocked it to 3.8GHz with a MSI 907A-G46, it runs really well i can play games skype and watch twitch and i get no frame drops in games. But with the price to preformance ratio i would go with a AMD but if you can afford the unlocked i5 get it

Unless you simply CAN NOT afford it.....Intel is the way to go......but then again, it depends on what you will be doing with your pc.

I agree with the others, go with intel much better performance.

A lot of deals around the web right now for Black Friday, keep an eye on them you might find a better processor for the same price or a bit more

Multiplayer games take advantage of higher performance per clock. Therefore, Intel is the way to go. AMD architecture of the FX processors is flat out dated and simply not on par with Intel. Not only do AMD CPUs perform worse in these games you want to play, but they also generally consume more power and radiate more heat.

For MMOs i wouldnt go for a fx series cpu. The i5 will give you excellent performance
