R9 270X?

I doubt that it can handle running BF4 the way I want.

You can pick up an R9 290 for a little more than $250 after a rebate http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814202080&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-_-na-_-na-_-na&cm_sp=&AID=10446076&PID=3938566&SID=

Might be worth waiting till Friday to see what offers come up.

I agree, if you can squeeze in the extra it'll be well worth it.

I found plenty of them , but mostly the low priced ones are reference cooler cards.

Last time everyone said to avoid the reference card.

The 270X is approximately a rebranded HD 7870, so probably a downgrade to some degree. The R9 280 is a rebranded HD 7950. For the sake of completeness, the R9 280X is an HD 7970 GHz Edition. Only the R9 290 and 290X are "new" chips (Hawaii). On Nvidia's side, a good portion the 700 series is rebranded from the 600's as well.

You might either want to try get a bit more to spend, or wait longer.

R9 280 overclocked. Put in an extra $50 and get an R9 290, or find a cheap one maybe.

I found good deals on the R9 290 but most of the good deals are on the reference cooler cards.

It's something to consider if the cooler isn't a top priority I guess. It would give you miles more performance.

I don't really mind it being a reference cooler.

I managed to cool 3 - 7950's  perfectly fine when I had a 3-way setup, I'm sure I can cool one Reference R9 290.

I wouldn't recommend it. The Hawaii-based cards got rather mixed/poor reviews based on the reference cooler models that were tested when they were first released. The cards get very hot, the fans exceedingly loud (Anandtech's sample got as hot as 94°C and 60 dB!). If you turn the fans down, it's going to throttle down to stay within spec, which means it's sometimes performing a lot slower than a 290 should. This is a different set of problems (and in some ways, ones harder to remedy) than that posed by three mid-range cards in Crossfire.

To be honest, if it were me, I'd probably be hanging on until at least the GTX 960 is released, if not also midrange R9 300's. I don't like making recommendations like that, but the HD 7950 still isn't that far off from most $200-250 cards available right now.

Well the company I bought my 7950 from will replace the defective one I have with a new one so I think I will stick with the 7950 until I really need to upgrade.

For this kind of money i highly recommend R9 280X just bough this card my self last Friday, for BF4 its a best bank for your buck, with mantle on i get 90-100fps avg, and i had gtx 760 4gb version, i must say that r9 280x handles games really impressive, far cry 4 on ultra without god rays avg fps is 60 even knowing that ubisoft didn't configured the game for AMD cards. Really good purchase for this kind of money, GTX 770 ain't worth extra 50-100$ and im not AMD fanboy, this is my first AMD card since last 8 years. :)
