Opinions on this SSD

N3rot0xin

Long story short, had an SSD die on me. It was a crucial M4 64gb ssd. Got approved for an RMA replacement. However, the drive i have is no longer in stock, and they have to send me a different model as a replacement. I'm curious to know how the one they are sending me compares to what I had. They said that my model of the M4 was 'End of Life'. However, almost everywhere i search for the replacement model they are sending me, it says "OUT OF STOCK" or somethign along the lines of "will not be restocked"..

Anyways, the one they are sending me as a replacement is this one, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820148357&cm_re=CTFDDAC064MAG-1G1-_-20-148-357-_-Product'>CTFDDAC064MAG-1G1.

I dont know much about it, I always thought the m4 line was pretty high up.. I dont know where this one that they are sending me as a replacement will stack up against it. Thoughts?

I am whatever I am.

It's worth noting that they don't have a 64gb C300 (which will perform a decent bit worse than the 128gb version).

M4 is better.

You'd better check for sure. I really doubt anyone actually has a drive of that size in stock. It'll be listed by a distributor instead. They all could be listing the same drive! Have somebody actually check that it's available.

Unless you're getting a free replacement I wouldn't buy another. Go for something more reasonable and recent like a 128gb or even better a 256gb MX100. You are only looking at $30 more for 4 times the space and way better specs.

Sir William of Orange: Corsair 230T - Rebel Orange, 4690K, GA-97X SOC, 16gb Dom Plats 1866C9,  2 MX100 256gb, Seagate 2tb Desktop, EVGA Supernova 750-G2, Be Quiet! Dark Rock 3, DK 9008 keyboard, Pioneer BR drive. Yeah, on board graphics - deal with it!

  • 2 weeks later...

So a little update here, (not trying to resurrect a dead thread), but something a little interesting happened with this.

I was supposed to send my SSD in for RMA replacement and get the C300 stated above. But before I send mine in, i get an email saying that they already recieved my unit for replacement. I'm like, ehh dafuq. Then I see that a unit has been shipped as a replacement. Not only did they upgrade the model, they upgraded the capacity. Instead of the C300, i'm getting an MX100 256gb (confirmed with an order number and tracking number). I'm thinking to myself, how the hell did this happen?? Its clearly someone at the CSR level that I talked to or something, this doesn't seem like a "computer system/email glitch". It seems like it was processed as an actual order instead of an RMA replacement too. Not complaining, but still. What happened? Lol

I am whatever I am.

Sounds like somebody got screwed. Make sure when the unit comes that you inspect all the packaging carefully. They may want your old drive back. Like I said above, this is an antique drive that isn't worth anything. All those small drives out there for sale are old stock. Some distributor has a box of these on a shelf somewhere. Nice that Crucial is standing behind their product.

Somebody did get screwed, but it wasn't me.. I got laid in the good way, lol. But for real, the MX100 is a pretty new drive. They technically can't force me to send my drive back to them, since they processed the RMA and shipped a unit to me before i even sent mine to them(tho i have no cares about sending it back, its next to useless to me now. I might take it apart if i can keep it). I'm just happy I got a a free SSD upgrade. Now i can load games off of my SSD instead of just my OS.

I am whatever I am.
