Games getting too demanding to run!

IMPERIUS

Hi!

I think that todays games are getting werry demanding to run. Example of this are AS Unity and Far Cry 4. I know that Unity has bad optimisation problems but cpus with 2 cores struggle in FC 4. BF4 also benefits with 4 cores. But games like Bad Company 2 didnt have problems with 2 cores.

And I think that intel isnt going to add 2 more cores to its i3 line, so to get a docent fps u have to buy an i5 and that means that games are getting more expensive to run at higher fps.

What are your thoughts on this?

That it's okay, 4 cores is about to become standard, games are also demanding more and more vram and such, so yeah, it's how it works, some can keep up, others get a console.

Exactly. And those 500$ pcs will get like 20 fps? I think thats really sad...

Yeah, BC2 was out on 2010, that's almost 5 years ago m8

Consoles are fine, some games at 30 fps, some at 60, most at 1080p in ps4 at least, i think it's decent, and it will get better.

With bc2 nobody had problems like "omg my cpu has too little cores!" like some have today

What do you want us to say? Sorry that the industry keeps moving forward?

It's no secret that newer games will generally have higher requirements than it's predecessor. So upgrade or get left behind. You can still enjoy older games and there's nothing wrong with that.

Games that use a lot of resources and actually do something with them, I'm all for.  You can always turn the settings down.

What bothers me is games that hog resources and don't have anything to show for it, because of sloppy programming.  And I don't blame developers, but the publishers that impose unrealistic deadlines and go forward with the launch no matter what state the game is in.

Because today you have from 2 cores to 8 cores, in 2010 that didn't happen.

And this was inminent, you can expect 2 cores to be left out at some point, you don't see people asking why games are so demanding with a 9800gt right? I don't get why everyone says this about CPUs, but no1 said a single thing about gpus asking for 3gb vram to max out, and some 8gb vram gpu out there.

I run an i5 3570k and an R9 280. Hardly top of the line, expensive gear. I run games just fine. You don't need to spend a relative fortune to play these days.

Plenty options out there - sure an FX 6300 isn't as good as an i3 for gaming where dual core works, but it'll get you through things and is affordable.

Tech has to move forward, and hopefully Intel will put 4 cores into its budget line soon.

I have a 3570k and a 7950 vapor-x, basically the same, and i bought a 970 because for me, the 7950 is not enough anymore for 1080p.

Growing out to more cores is the best way CPUs can make big improvements since hitting the clockspeed wall in 2003 or so. There was a huge time delay for adoption of quad core optimized games because it's quite a bit harder to program for more processors. I just hope we're not getting ready to go into the hexacore or octacore era since I'm going to be buying either a quad core i5 or a quad core + hyperthreading Xeon pretty soon (and no way HT will ever make up for a 2 or 4 core deficiency).

U see a performance improvement in bf4 with 4 cores and the game isn't exactly new so what will hardline or bf5 require?

Lords of the fallen, shadow of mordor, they all did fairly well, i didn't read any optimization issues about those.

Civilization is about as close as I come to AAA titles. Agree with Glenwing that it's got more to do with sloppy programming and the environment that creates it than hardware not keeping up. Pretty happy with most indie games, even if they aren't making use of my hardware.

It´s not an issue for me, sure im not the "avarage joe" I can afford an upgrade if needed and i dont buy Low end cheap crap unless its for someone else.

As for games getting demanding, its good, and as long as its properly made.
AC and Unity are the two WORST examples you could have come up with. REALLY

also BC 2 is an OLD GAME. it makes sense it demands less. its old! Why didn't you bring up Diablo 1 while your at it.

If you said "BF4 and unity" or something it would make more sense.

My pickle is with GPU makers, They need to step up the game and make GPU´s that are more affordable and better than what they are doing nowadays.

PC gamers 2012: Consoles are holding us back! Games dont take advantage of our more powerful PCs!

PC gamers 2014: Games are too demanding! We have to upgrade our PCs just to play!

I'm a PC gamer, but I find this actually kinda funny.

(I still have no problems playing anything...)

Exactly! I've been one of those that said that, but i'm not complaining now, games look beautiful, but you need some serious hardware to play like that.

I think GTA V will be a very important game, in this 2 core getting old thing, if you won't be able to play it with 2 cores, then that's it, 4cores will be standard.

The only game I ever had problems running with my R9 290 thus far is Black Flag. With V-sync off, it runs at 60+ fps but with HORRIBLE screen tearing. With V-sync on, it jumps from 60 to 30 fps and back to 60, over and over, making for a very choppy and annoying game play experience. Needless to say; with everything I've been hearing about ACU and FC4, I'm not touching any Ubisoft games from here on out.

Everything else runs like butter.

Don't mistake a demanding game for a poorly optimized game. There's a big difference. But, as things progress, eventually there will be games in the future that may be virtually unplayable on today's hardware. It's only natural we'll start seeing games that push current hardware.
