New computer turns on then off straight away

Jake5467

Just finished my new build, testing components all through the build as usual. Put the side on to finish build, power it up and beautiful all the fans spin, hard drives spin and all lights come on. All went well obviously so the only thing I did after this was put the sides on and hook up the cables. Now it won't boot. The lights flash for power for one second then turn off. I just can't get my head around it. I have isolated the power and tested the psu with the paper clip and its fine (corsair hx750w). The motherboard was fine (I still think it is as the onboard LEDs light up and the on board power buttons also works (Asus z97 deluxe). Can anyone shed some light or suggest something? It does my head in that it was running perfectly and the only difference made was a couple of usbs and a display port cable. Thanks in advance

Make sure the mobo is not shorting out somewhere and that the raisers are all correctly positioned. Could it also be a faulty power button in the case?

Looks like the overvoltage protection thingymagic to me.... Check all the cables and if everyone is plugged in (CPU Power? or cpu fan?) also switch the psu on and off again

Power button on case is fine. Raisers I doubt because it had been running fine. Can't get into bios runs for literally one second before turning off. I can hear a click when it turns itself off. Double check all my cables in the motherboard. Checked for bent pins, I just can't work it out. Thanks for the suggestions

I have a Nepton 280L, if this is the case should the pump be plugged into the cpu fan header or just a 4 pin pwm? Maybe the pump isn't getting enough power from the cup fan header?

Remove the motherboard from the case and try powering it up outside the case. Also check the connectors and the cpu socket(bent pins?)

Is it even possible that anything could be faulty after I had it running for about 5 minutes fine, and then moved it and now it's not starting? I'm hoping all it is is that a connection has come loose when I picked it up

Of course that can happen  but its quite unlikely - pump in the cpu fan header is ok - they provide the most power on asus boards, even more than standard fan headers

Maybe your PSU is faulty/bad.

I had one that just stopped after 2 days of use. Had to get a new one to fix it.

Good luck.

I know this sort of thing can be very annoying.

As you said you plugged up extra USB, I take it this was peripherals etc into the rear I/O.. I have had to deal with an instance that one of the rear I/O USB hubs would prevent boot up if anything was inserted into it.

Please remove all usb cables and try and post, if you post, see if it is a particular USB device or hub in the rear I/O that has caused the issue.

Let us know how you get on.

Regards

Ed
