H100I Noise

Sicarius

Hi all, I have had my H100I for a while now, I had to RMA my first one due to it being faulty, and my second has been cooling really well. 25 degrees while at desktop and 50 degrees in-game, not bad at all. But it has always been a little noisy, I put it down to my fans and got some 2 sp120 quiet edition for the rad, 1 af120 quiet, a fan controller and I am using the 2 stock H100I fans at a backup if I am doing something intensive, but the noise is STILL unbearable, even with all fans turned off at 0RPM I can hear a humming noise, like what I'd expect from a fan to be honest. Is there any known fix for this? It will be months until I can afford my custom loop and the noise is really getting to me and stopping me from concentrating on work now.  I can deal with a little noise but this is too much to be honest. Any help will be really appreciated!

Yeah I gathered it must be the pump, thought I put that in the OP my bad. But there are people on the net saying that next to them the pump is barely audible, I mean am I really being that picky haha? Any chance it is a faulty pump? If not I guess I'll be asking for W/C components for xmas

Yes, you're that guy. I'm that guy also. I really disliked the humming of my H60, that's why it's dusting away in the closet somewhere.

No but seriously, people claiming they can't hear the pump at 12V are deaf. I had to put it to atleast 7V to not go mental.

And don't. Custom looping a 4770K is wasted money. Just get a nice aircooler like the Dark Rock Pro 3 or NH-D15.

Just like Majestic said, you are that guy, and hey I'm that guy too. I find these small pumps very annoying when it comes down to noise, that's why if it's an AiO it's always better to go with a Kraken from NZXT or the Swiftech AiOs, they have variable speed pumps.

It's not just pumps, me (and you possibly too) just like many others find Corsair fans very noisy on 12V, while many out there are saying they are 'quiet'.

Maybe it is because I come from a quiet neighbourhood and now I live on a city that is pestered with traffic noise.

To confirm its the pump, unplug everything from the PSU, except the SATA connector on the h100i. unplug all fans from the AIO. then jump the 24 pin, so that the only components with power are the PSU and the pump. otherwise keep looking for the problem

Dayum, this is gunna be a long wait for a new cooler then. I never thought I was that guy until recently, my fears have been confirmed :@. To be honest I am not just W/Cing for the temps, also the looks. May sound silly but I've always wanted to do it, I take pride in my rig and I HATE air coolers, I can't stand seeing a massive chunk of metal in the middle, it looks horrible so I'll end up W/Cing it anyway but thanks for the recommendation. You said you lowered it to 7V, how do I go about doing this? I can deal with higher temps if need be, I rarely play intensive games at the moment due to the lack of a good GPU.

I'll be doing this tomorrow after college, thanks.

You really think the BeQuiet! Dark Rock Pro 3 is ugly? :/

Yeah :/ I may just be weird haha, I just see no appeal to air coolers personally. I mean a W/C loop will set me back by £200-£300 TOPS, but it will be silent (I hope), keep things cool, and I can ditch porn forever, my PC will be all I need :3 (providing I do a good job ;)). This is my first good build, been stuck with my 6 year old laptop with a Celeron T3500 and 2GB of RAM, with serious overheating issues since I was 11, so I really wana go all-out with this. Do you have any links you can send me about undervolting my cooler to 7V by any chance? I'll need to stick with this cooler for a while as I have a new case, Xmas presents, GPU and an SSD to buy before I can think of getting  anew cooler :/

How can you be sure that the pump in that custom loop won't make the same noise... You'll have to decide which is more imporant, looks or noise. Because more quiet than the Dark Rock Pro 3 will be impossible with a AIO or Custom loop.

Well, I have seen people say that there are SILENT pumps out there, I also believe I watched Linus review one, variable speed obviously. I don't mind a little noise but this is madness :/. I uploaded a quick vid from my nexus 7 to show you what I mean, not sure if you will hear it properly as the mic and camera on this thing are not great at all.

Yeah I hear it. It's running at 12V probably. Well, before you buy anything new, try hooking up the pump to that fancontroller. Or get a seperate zalman fanmate if you're out of connectors.

Great, the mic ain't too bad then. My controller uses 3 pin connectors for fans, and the H100I uses SATA power connectors however I'll see if I there's a way to hook it up. Thanks for the help man, I appreciate it. But how did you get yours to run at 7V?

Yea, the H100i has a bad reputation, part of it is its noisy pump.  Not all AIOs are that loud.

The comparable Cooler Master Seidon 240M is nearly silent compared to the noise of the H100i's pump.

There is also the brand new Cooler Master Nepton 240M which is supposed to be the most quiet AIO ever made, and lots of reviews have been done to back that up.  I would look into the Nepton 240M if the noise of the H100i bothers you that much.  Try and resell it to recoup losses.

Hooked it up to my fan controller, ran it down to 0v very quick to see if noise dissapeared and it stayed the same. So I then put it to 7V and it is still the same. Led me to believe I may be wrong, only other things it could be are PSU and HDD. Unplugged HDD and noise was not as bad but it is defo not that causing the noise. Gunna test everything later as this is bugging me haha.

I only read good things about it, until I pressed that order button. I'll not be getting another AIO, may as well spend another £100 and get a custom loop, will be a fun experience too I guess. Wana smash this thing atm haha.

For many it works without issue, or they don't mind the pump noise. But for a lot of people, it has a problem with mounting, pump noise, or buggy software. I just stop recommending it because so many people complain about it.

I guess it depends on the pitch of the pump. I cannot stand the whine of cooler master AIO pumps, and think they should be burned with fire, but my corsair H50's are all dead silent. I bet the dog next door that barks non-stop when my computer is running thinks otherwise...

Really? Which CM pump are you referring to? My Seidon 240M is so quiet I cannot hear it unless I put my head to it. Compare that to my X31, or my friend's H100i and H55,it is the most quiet pump I've ever come across.

Yeah I may look into it, but I do plan to do a custom loop for the lulz. And I have just bricked my H100I with an update as I did with my first unit I RMA'd (I accepted the same update by accident just now :( ) I love Corsair but their software is buggy, and cooler noisy. Disappointing tbh xD
