I have $300 to spend; monitor or cheaper monitor + SSD?

Keponi
Go to solution Solved by Tacitus,

I'd be finding it very difficult to decide myself - I love my U2414h, and I guess I stare at it for hours at a time, but how often do I use my SSD for demanding tasks. Most general usage applications boot and install perfectly quickly to not be too concerned about it.

I'd probably recommend getting the good monitor. As SSD prices drop and capacity increases it's easy enough to add one in. That monitor might need to serve you for five or more years. Best getting a good one.

After doing some research, I figured the Dell U2414H would be the best monitor I can buy in my budget.

BUT

Now that I think of it, my rig is still missing an SSD...

(Here's my rig's spec

i5 4570

Gigabyte H97 d3h

GTX 770

Corsair H60

WD Blue 1TB

HyperX fury 16gb)

I think I have 2 choice.

1. Go with the more expensive Dell U2414H and no SSD.

2. Settle for a Dell P2314H, a thicker bezel, smaller and less expensive monitor but with the same IPS panel and similar specs.

So yeah, the question here is IS the U2414H worth the higher price tag? Tell me what you guys think!

Thank you!

SSDs are more of a luxury thing and aren't as important as a monitor. Go for the nicer one :)

I'd either get a samsung monitor, or a tv with good stats (w/ dvi)

SSD isn't that important :P

Get the monitor, SSD's are only getting cheaper and you can definitely live without it for awhile.

What problems did you ran into when you had your P2314H? The only thing I know about it is that it has a BGR subpixel order as opposed to RGB which causes blurry texts on Mac. Seems fixable on Windows though.

Well, it was basically colour problems, yellowing in parts of the screen (IPS monitors shouldn't do this) and backlight

bleed issues. If you want any more details then that you'll have to search the forum as I don't wish to detail then here.

Are there any other monitors, besides the Dell ones, that you've looked at?

Alright, thanks for the replies everyone! You guys are the best.

I ended up getting the U2414H and wow does the monitor look amazing in person! I'm really glad I went for the more expensive monitor because the build quality is just so nice! Seriously!

Now I can save up and get an SSD later.

Here's some pics of the monitor.
