Should I buy a SHIELD?

ZeroPlasm

Recently got an NVIDIA graphics card and I tried the limelight app on my phone with a controller attached and it runs pretty well.

Reasons I wanna get a SHIELD for game streaming

- From what I heard, a SHIELD does a much better job at streaming games compared to limelight. Limelight works but it isn't exactly responsive in my experience. Yes, my computer, router and phone are all connected via wireless AC.

- My controller kinda sucks, I bought a MOGA Power Hero controller. While it is more than adequate for Android games, the dead zone and small footprint of the controller isn't exactly suitable for PC game streaming.

Questions I have

- Which SHIELD? The portable is currently what I am looking at, it costs less and has the better form factor. But the Tegra 4 processor and 720p screen are kinda dated. The tablet has a nice screen and better processor but the fact that the tablet and controller are not physically connected kinda kills it for me.

- Should I wait for a new SHIELD? The SHIELD portable is about a year old now and I have a feeling that I should wait for a newer SHIELD portable if NVIDIA is gonna release an updated one that is.

- How does games look on the SHIELD? As stated before I currently use limelight. I have an LG G2 which has a 1080P IPS display. Games look pretty decent but it can definitely be improved. If somebody has a 1080p smartphone, how does the SHIELD portable's screen compare?

I'm pretty sure it doesn't matter if you have a 1080p smart phone with Limelight because it's based on the Nvidia software that they cracked so it very likely only runs at 720p, and with the lag problems Limelight already has,1080p would pretty much be out of the question . As long as your Shield is connected to 5Ghz N it runs pretty much flawlessly for non competitive games. As of right now to public knowledge there isn't and new Shield device being developed so you'd likely be waiting for two years. Go for the one that fits your needs, If you want to play it in the car/bus/train I'd get the Shield Portable, If you will actually use the Shield Tablet as a tablet and not just a pure game streaming device and don't mind the possible difficulties of playing it in some situations go for the Shield Tablet.
