H440 Cons

Kejimuna

Since Black Friday is coming up I plan on buying the H440 for my build. What cons do you know about this case? I also plan on using air cooling

Um airflow in the case isn't the besttt although its not particularly bad, also that problem would be fixed mostly by switching out the fans since the ones it comes with are pretty bad comparatively.

Linus has said time and time again, the more restricted air flow wont kill your PC, it will make things run a little warmer than he would like tho.

Other than that. No sleek black only variant.

Pretty bad airflow, and the PSU cover can be hit or miss(preference)  and the aesthetic(preference) isn't my favorite a good case to consider would be the Fractal Design Define R5

My biggest problem with the NZXT H440 would be that the aluminium SHOWS ALL FINGER SPOTS WHEN TOUCHED! Argh my little sister is driving crazy with it :D

Must have it clean! Cleannnnn, aside my cleaning phobia, as you said it has restricted airflow but I have no other problems with the case. Loving the PSU shroud, and it was enjoyable to build in.

You might have to spend some more time on cable management in the back to be able to close case nicely without having to "force" it since it's pretty tight.

Oh and I changed the front stock fans with noctuas, wasn't a fan of theirs but that's preference.

So just 3 120mm noctua's at the front?

It's worse than the Enthoo Pro.

That's probably about it. It ain't too bad, nothing that should stand out as terrible.

Or anything that is decent and not those fans. Cougar 120mm, Cooler Master has some, Be Quiet!, others..

When you compare it with an Enthoo pro are you calling the Enthoo Pro bad as well, or saying that the Enthoo Pro is good?

Yeah should be good if you put that in, its not to big a deal, its just if you plan on OCing you may start to run into problems simply because the case doesn't have many spots that it can take in or let out air

I have a H440 for a few months now and here are my initial thoughts. In terms of temps and air flow, in my opinion this case is great. It does run a little warmer if your ambient temperatures are higher or running a non blower gpu card. But I've never had a issue with excessive heat. Also I switched out all the fans with corsair fans, and removed all the HDD bays(HDD mount under PSU shroud) for improved air flow. With all that in consideration for heat, my case runs pretty cool. And its darn quiet too. The only issue I have with this case is space behind the mobo for cable management. It can get pretty tight, and will have difficulty putting on the cover.

You changed all four and replaced with four and a 140 exhaust fan in the back?

Changed the 3 front fans to Corsair AF120 Intake

Rear is Corsair AF140 Exhaust

Top/Exhaust Corsair h100i with Corsair 2xSP120

Yeah I replaced the 3 front stock fans with 3 Noctua NF-F12's, the difference in noise is noticeable when I do not have my headset on.

Replaced the back stock fan with a Corsair AF 140mm because of aesthetics with it's red ring.

Atm even considering changing the stock fans on my NZXT X60 kraken with a pair of noctuas as well because while gaming, the nzxt stock fans at a high rpm make an annoying noise which sometimes can even be heard with my headset on.

Imma stop you right there and say it's steel and plastic

Ok, so now for my complaints:

-The worst one I'll get out of the way first, and it's literally the finish on it. It's shit. No way around it, it's shit. Removing the stock fans, basically stripped all the paint around those screws. It scratches easily. One of the most uninspiring paints jobs I've ever seen.

-Some users have reported that with the fans running at certain speeds, it seems to cause the air passing through the case to resonate, resulting in an annoying whining noise.

-The sound dampening foam does mean you might find yourself doing the olde' "push-and-slide" to get the side panel back on.

-Airflow, I'll mention this last. Make sure you're setup for static pressure. I've seen a few people recommend air coolers over CLCs to avoid adding more restriction but I'm not sure how much I buy into that point.

Aesthetically, it's killer. I'll have pictures of my rig up hopefully in the next couple of days.

the H440 will be a fine air cooled build. all this hype on being a hot/warm case

is pooh. the stock fans a decent. how you set up the case flow can be an important

need to get the best flow for the HSF and GPU(s).

Haha I'll be damned, you're right. My store is advertising it as an aluminium case(might be just an error) whereas the original NZXT site clearly states it's steel. My apologies.

Anyway the fact remains every fingerprint on this case(black/red version) can be instantly and clearly seen sadly enough.

H440 vs the fractal r4?

Pros and cons?

Also: do both have the option to add an optical drive?

no the H440 has no provisions for an ODD or any 5.25" device.

USB optical disk drives DO exist, however. I'm not really sure about fan controlling (if the included fan controller is crap, you never know), so that's a downside.

Cons:

-Airflow, not the best with the front and top panels installed (around 5-7 degrees difference)

-Cable room, there is very little room behind the motherboard. I had to use Linus' lay on the back of the case method, to get mine shut. This is with hours spent on cable management and probably over 100 cable ties.Although I do have a lot(!) of cables with my cooling system. I see other H440 builds with very few cables fitting nicely.

-Fan hub, 10 port fan hub at the back can't be controlled making it fairly useless, but its fine for the stock fans I guess. I have my lighting attached to it.

-No top fan filter, if you plan on a top intake you'll need to buy aftermarket filters.

Pros:

-Quite! I creates this muffled sound on the fans which is nice. All you hear is the air movement, no whine from the fans. Its not the same as slower running fans. It helps extremely high RPM fan noise as well.

-Looks, its a good looking case... You can see mine in my Sig.

-PSU shroud, the shroud means you only show cables you wish to be shown. Traditionally you will see cables leading out of the PSU going into cable routing holes. Most builds in this case only make visible the 24pin and the GPU power cables. (And the EPS maybe). It would also help to hide unused cables, although not something I did.

Given all this I love the case... But I would recommend the Phanteks Enthoo Pro...
