Upgrading 240gb 840 EVO to 1,000gb 850 Pro

Gung Pow Chicken

What's your guy's opinion on the upgrade from a 240gb 840 evo to a 1tb 850 Pro, do you guys think I will see preformance boosts or will it be about the same?

Forgot to add this in..

The upgrade will be going in my laptop for work and personal use due to the current ssd running out of space all the time and is becoming an inconvenience

I can guarantee you you won't see a performance boost. Not worth the money unless you really have nothing else to do with it.

2 x MX100 512 in RAID 0 and you'll see better performance at a lower cost :)

Cost really isn't an issue

I'm going to need a bigger ssd anyways I just thought instead of going for an 840 evo again in a larger size I might as well go with an 850 Pro.

You will not see much of a difference. Maybe slightly faster but its not noticeable. If you have to money then get 2 500gb 850 and put them in raid 0

it's going in a laptop with only 1 sata port

in that case, apart from more storage, you cant really get better performace right now

Well if you intend to buy a new SSD anyway and cost is of no matter, then you're right. Go for the 850 Pro, slightly better read/write values than the 840 Evo. But you won't notice it.

Now out of curiosity, you planning on storing every game you own on the new 1TB SSD? :D

I don't actually play games on my laptop, mainly work files, school stuff, tons of programs....ex

I don't even know how it would preform it's got a i7-4900mq/gtx 730m 1gb/16gb ddr3 ram. Probably won't do too bad but has a 2880x1620 IPS display so it will look good as long as it can play the game.

Honestly, with how fast the 840 Evo still is, keep the Evo until it's not very fast anymore. No point in upgrading from a really nice, fast, SSD than getting something with similar performance that you don't need.
