Windows 8.1 Freezing after Waking

Whenever I leave my desktop I like to lock it and just walk away. When I come back sometimes hours later and wake it from sleep it will be frozen or freeze after I unlock it. I don't like turning my desktop off because I frequently leave it for 30 mins to 2 hours and come back and need to work on something. Anyone know why it'd be doing it?

Does it happen when your CPU is at stock speeds (no overclocks)

Ok these are possible issues:

-> Hardware or peripheral driver bug (most likely)

-> Hardware or peripheral is not Windows 8 ready or bug.

I had the issue you had. In my case it was the Creative X-Fi card itself that was freezing. If I removed the card and used the onboard sound card, or later when I change it to a Xonar, the problem was completely gone.

To test for peripherials it's easy: Just unplug everything, like everything, beside keyboard and mouse. Then try. Is the problem fixed or not.

Windows might help you points you in the right direction as well, but won't help you if it's a hardware level problem:

Open the command prompt as true admin, and run:

C:\> cd C:\C:\> powercfg -energy
An HTML report will be generated at C:\. Takes 60sec to do.

Double click on it, and it will give you a report on what is wrong.
