Should I get a server motherboard?

Hikaru12

I'm planning on building a FreeNAS server but I'm not quite sure the difference between a desktop vs. server board besides the lack of overclocking support and better power efficiency. Are server boards more reliable? The only other thing I can think of is it's support for ECC RAM but the data I'm planning on dropping onto the server will just be ripped copies of DVD's so it's not really critical if a drive or the memory failed.

You should be fine with a non server board, as long as it's high quality :)

Are you building a server? if no, then you don't need a server board.

Asus AM3+ mobo´s support ECC ram.

So if you look for a cheap server solution witth ECC support.

FX8320 with Asus M5A99FX pro R2.0
