no, i remember JJ from asus talking about maybe doing something like this a few months ago iirc he said it would add around $300 to a boards price. not sure how many people will buy but eventually this is the road we are all headed.

@LinusTech do a speed video of built in PCIE lanes vs having a PLX chip pass through

Shame it had to be AsRock, now that they've switched to that unbuyable colour scheme. There's a reason MSi motherboards and Z77 ASUS boards go straight into the trash when I buy a used computer with one (which is budgeted into the value proposition to begin with)

@Zeke go eat a cactus, AsRock is a fantastic motherboard maker, and they know how to save money without sacrificing life time for budget boards, unlike MSi (MSi's FM2 entry-level boards have a 99% RMA rate and a 1% explosion-with-result-of-death rate*)

There are some sketchy mobo brands but AsRock is not one of them.

*exaggerated, but they are truly spectacularly shitty.

In case the moderators do not ban me as requested, this is a notice that I have left and am not coming back.

Jesus fucking Christ, OP...

'B' stands for 'byte' and 'b' stands for 'bit'.

People who use 'gb' for 'gigabyte do it because they're lazy, but this... this is just malice.

I legitimately opened this thread thinking the board had 10GB of soldered-on RAM.

Edit: correction noticed and appreciated.

It's an easy mistake to make but yeah, I thought it was a motherboard with a 10GB SSD cache built in or something.

That's one beast of a motherboard. Two 10Gbps ports and two 1Gbps ports? 7 PCIe slots? It's insane.

This solves two problems -- motherboard compatibility with 10G network cards isn't perfect, and the chips being on the motherboard guarantees that you can make use of those ports. In addition, you aren't sacrificing a PCI-E slot or lanes to make use of it.

The downside is that you can't transfer that capability to another motherboard, because the chips are on the board. If you change your setup often, then this board doesn't make sense.

I see this as being targeted at someone who isn't going to change their setup anytime soon (workstation environment), or is just going to change CPU/RAM. That makes sense, seeing that it is on the 2011-3 platform where there is a lot of room to do CPU and RAM upgrades if you need to.

I do not feel obliged to believe that the same God who has endowed us with sense, reason and intellect has intended us to forgo their use, and by some other means to give us knowledge which we can attain by them. - Galileo Galilei

Cactuses are pretty ok actually, but I just don't see AsRock as a company that sells mobos for the same* amount of money that gets you 5960X. Also I don't like the tendency to put these small fans on mobos (ASUS is guilty of that as well).

Speaking of MSI's boards for AMD - can't say anything about that, I've been avoiding AMD in my builds (and got pretty good at it), although I've seen a guy having some serious problems with one.

Colour schemes are subjective, I love blue, hate red/black.

I agree ASrock are awesome, but you're throwing MSI into a wrong basket. Are you maybe living in 2005? MSI are making fantastic motherboards now

I don't really see a market for this. Gamers with insane amounts of money don't have any use for 10gig ethernet, and server builds need more than just fast lan connections.

Maybe for the ultimate ricer rig?

Workstations, relying on nas storage. This means you can have a teamed 20Gb connection to your company nas on every workstation, plus 1Gb to the internets and 1Gb to the other Workstations.
