Did I choose the best components?

Hi guys. this is a build I'm planning. What do you guys think? would you change anything? Would this be able to run most games at 1080p?

Thanks for the Help

Great choice of components except for the HDD. A RED is for things like a 24/7 NAS, use a Black or a blue. Or a seagate barracuda.

Compatible with Windows 95

Why a Z motherboard if you aren't getting a K series CPU?  You wouldn't need water cooling if you aren't gonna overclock.

@Theinsidiousgeek

I would change almost everything, I think you can do much better for that amount of money

Also is there any reason you need 2x 4tb NAS/Server grade hard drives in your pc?

What exactly is this PC for, and what is your max budget

Desktop - Corsair 300r i7 4770k H100i MSI 780ti 16GB Vengeance Pro 2400mhz Crucial MX100 512gb Samsung Evo 250gb 2 TB WD Green, AOC Q2770PQU 1440p 27" monitor Laptop Clevo W110er - 11.6" 768p, i5 3230m, 650m GT 2gb, OCZ vertex 4 256gb,  4gb ram, Server: Fractal Define Mini, MSI Z78-G43, Intel G3220, 8GB Corsair Vengeance, 4x 3tb WD Reds in Raid 10, Phone Oppo Reno 10x 256gb , Camera Sony A7iii

Get a Overclockable CPU. You've a great motherboard here!

Intel Core i3 2100 @ 3.10GHz - Intel Stock Cooler - Zotac Geforce GT 610 2GB Synergy Edition

Intel DH61WW - Corsair® Value Select 4GBx1 DDR3 1600 MHz - Antec BP-300P PSU

WD Green 1TB - Seagate 2.5" HDD 1TB - Seagate Barracuda 500GB - Antec X1 E.

WO WO WO WO

I think that for $2530 bucks you can do A LOT better.

I feel like for some spots you have gone OVERKILL and others UNDERKILL

1) Why use 8TB of NAS/ Server grade storage?

2) Why not a K series CPU?

3) Perhaps a different PSU I mean for what your paying you would be better off with a 750W EVGA Gold+ PSU

Yea they are, I was looking at some pricing for another Kiwi bloke on here before and i was pretty surprised, he bought his stuff from Newegg in America.

As for the build, if you are just going to game on it:

*Swap the i7 4790 for an i5 4690K

*Swap those NAS drives for Blues, Blacks, Barracudas or even Greens.

Do a build list up on Newegg, and see what it would come to with included shipping... Just out of curiosity.

Okay, couple of updates and explanations.  I'm, as you've all probably guessed by now, relatively noobish when it comes to choosing the correct PC components. The original idea for this computer was to use it as a media centre pc for the living room tv. The reason I had decided on the 8tb of RED drives was because I was planing to future proof myself as I already have 4tb of files on a older drive. I had chosen the Motherboard because it had Wifi and bluetooth allowing me to only need a power cord if I was to take it to a friends place. And also it has great on board audio, which is a bonus seeing as the mini ITX form factor lacks expansion slots. CPU was basically down to me 'Cpubechmarking' the cpus to find the best one with out taken into consideration for the potential of unlocking. And when it comes to the prices, unfortunately thats what they're like here in NZ :(

I'm glad I asked on here before I brought anything!!!!

What I've done based off the info is swap the 2x 4TB red drives for a single 6tb Green. (Allows me to use the old 4tb i have as a backup) and I've replaced the i7 4790 to a i5 4690k.

What would you recommend for a PSU and is the H55 powerful enough to cool an overclocked 4690k?

thanks Guys!!!

Have you looked at maybe shipping parts from Australia because Sydney or Melbourne is on the closest side to NZ so maybe it would be cheaper?

And for PSU:  EVGA 750W 80+ Gold

Also good idea for storage and with the i5 but if all your using this for is a media server then you won't need to overclock it so a H55 will be fine but if you are planning on overclocking and going for more power you might wanna look at a different build and perhaps a ATX or even Micro ATX and then get a bigger case to fit a duel rad

Also if you want a really good mini ITX build look at this http://au.pcpartpicker.com/b/Zqhqqs

its a build I saw on pcpartpicker a month or so ago and I thought it looked great and performs very well.

Also if you want a cheaper idea for media centre buy a ps3 and a 6TB hard drive and just but your stuff on the hard drive and plug it into the ps3 then you can use that to take to your friends house.

Regarding this case, watch this review and see what you think:

I don't know if It is what you are looking for, I would be chasing something with more cooling for the GPU, and with more drive bays so you can have multiple 3.5inch drives for redundancy and expand-ability. How much are you going to be paying for a 6tb green? I would be chasing more 4tb hard drives so you can build a good RAID array. Actually if you store that much content consider getting a seperate NAS,

The H55 should be enough for mild overclocking.

Did a pricing on Newegg and after shipping it was actually marginal price difference. Not worth it tbh. haha

Funny you should mention the case. I've actually decided to go a different route and get a Corsair Carbide Series® Air 240. Case seems perfect for what I want. and its ascetically pleasing.

Green 6TB  - $369.00 NZD

Green 4TB - $219,00 NZD

Had originally had a NAS but it crashed and I lost all my files so it sort of met MR. Chainsaw...... I was planning to build a RAID array in my new system but unsure on RAID.

Ah yea, well it was worth having a look :D

That sounds like a much better case, nice one. You could probably upgrade to a mATX motherboard now, which will give you the option to add a second 970 in the future for SLI awesomeness.

If you are going for Green hard drives just remember that they are really only for media use, as they slow down and have to spin up when required. I would consider going for a second 4tb identical to the one you already have, and running them in raid1 for redundancy. Either that or grab a 6tb, run it at 4tb in raid 1 with your other drive and add another 6tb at a later date for a 6tb Raid 1, along with your 4tb and 250gb SSD.

Also consider if you need so much space, is that 4tb REALLY full? or is it just full of crap (like my drives usually are) which can be cleaned out.

Just checked out the mATX version of the Gigabyte Z97 Gaming 5 Series... Its $20 cheaper! Has 4x Ram slots vs two and it enables me to run two cards in SLI. Its Perfect!!!

EDIT: mATX model doesn't have wifi.....only the mITX and ATX have it.

Yup, Currently have a 4TB Drive in my parents system with recovery software slowly.....very slowly.... recovering the files off it. And yup its full. It had around 2000 Movies on it. and a hole heap of tv shows. Just for the simple fact that NZ only just got an unlimited broadband option and fibre so its still getting rolled out so streaming is still iffy.

How trustworthy is RAID1? And if I go with the 6TB an the 4TB for now, making a 4TB RAID. When it came time to add another 6TB would I just have to remove the 4tb, install the 6tb, rebuild the array and then expand it to the full 6?

Thanks

That sucks, have you considered using an Ethernet Over Power (powerline) adapter? I use one of them for my living room pc. Works well and never drops the connection.

As for the Raid questions, I don't really know enough about it to answer them. I am guessing yes? But perhaps throw another thread up in the storage solutions subforum.

depends how much you want to overclock, if your only slightly overclocking than yes, although a hyper 212 evo can cool it just the same as an h55 and its alot cheaper
