Resolution Differences

brainsilly

I have a laptop with 1024x768 resolution and I am wondering if it can use a 1920x1080 monitor and still effectively use of the extra pixels, or if I should go for a 720p monitor instead

If the output of your laptop supports 1080p, it will display it. If you mirror the displays they will only be at 1024x768, but if you have them set up as separate then your laptop will still be at 1024x768 and your monitor will be at 1080.

I doubt your laptop is actually native 1024x768, it's probably just the res you set it at.

Guessing that you have an iGPU, would your PC be able to even support it?

My crappy Dell Inspiron 10z was 1024x768.

After it broke down, I eventually banged it on my desk and broke the shit out of it.

My GPU is a 820M

If you have a GT820M, chances are your laptop's resolution is more then 1024x768. It'd be at least 1366x768, possibly 1600x900 or even 1080p.
