What's a good OC on a GPU?

JoaoPRSousa

Depends on the GPU whether it's a good one or not

Here you go (No MIR/Promo)

This is why you should not get an FX CPU for ANY scenario other than rendering on a budget http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/286142-fx-8350-r9-290-psu-requirements/?p=3892901 http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/266481-an-issue-with-people-bashing-the-fx-cpus/?p=3620861

@Archangle1994 my 750 as an example. Is a 200MHZ increase in the core a good OC?

I tried 350 but it crashed...

ALL GPU's are different, what one person gets is not always what another person is gunna get.

If your wondering about YOUR specific GPU, you should mention it in the post what you have, as not everyone is gunna read that you have a 750 in your Sig.

Best to check review sites for reviews on the GTX 750, and if they themselves have overclocked it.

DONT use their settings for your card, but as a guide to what it could be capable of, and start lower than that of course as yours may not even be able to overclock 10mhz more without crashing... like some other people have come across.

Best of luck @JoaoPRSousa

Or do what most ppl do, I don't always start with such a small increase, but do back off how much I add each time (higher and higher)

Meaning, I add 50Mhz the first time to the Core clock, if it passes, I then add 20mhz at a time, once it fails, I back off, and add 5mhz at a time, but if it fails, having it 20Mhz lower is prob best, not 5Mhz lower than a crashing Mhz.

If I add 50mhz the first time, and it fails, I generally don't OC it at all.

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

Depends entirely on the architecture being used, a huge increase in core clock does not always mean a huge boost to performance, this is like Fermi vs the 6900 series from AMD, Fermi per clock was miles quicker when overclocked at even numbers quite a lot lower than the AMD card.

For example the GTX 480 at 820mhz will out muscle the 6970 at 950mhz.

Generally you have to look at the percent of mhz u get... Yes, yours is pretty good btw xD

Whatever yields an impressive gain in score in benchmark software, or if it's noticeable in your games.

^ This.

Playability certainly counts...

If it enabled gives... 26fps average to be 31fps+ then it's worthy for playability sake.

If it enabled say...gives you 26fps to 28fps, it's not worth it and a better GPU should be invested in.
