Razer Greens

Electrick

Hey guys, this christmas i'm planning on getting the razer 2014 tournament edition. It is about $60 and although they're kaihl, they're still ( in my opinion) good switches if razer is designing them and has staff on the floor supervising quality (supposedly) for their products. I know that they're "optimized for gaming" but are they also good for typing? I know that the actuation point is higher but would this affect my typing/ be frustrating? Thanks!

Their green switches are the knock off MX blues so they should actually be better for typing rather than gaming. However it will do both fine.

The heightened actuation point will have about 0% difference in anything you do, so knock yourself out :P

Case: Meatbag, humanoid - APU: Human Brain version 1.53 (stock clock) - Storage: 100TB SND (Squishy Neuron Drive) - PSU: a combined 500W of Mitochondrial cells - Optical Drives: 2 Oculi, with corrective lenses.

I have been contemplating what keyboard and mouse to get myself and leaning towards Razer BlackWidow Chronos Stealth and Razer DeathAdder Chronos. From what I can tell the regular versions are 50g actuation force = to Cherry MX Blue. The stealth versions are 45g = to Cherry MX red/brown. I'm more concerned about noise than anything else but I have yet to see a gaming keyboard or mouse give dB of click in their specifications. So I am guessing that all mechanical keyboards are noisy. Logitech's newest "Romer-G" key switches are 45g also. Someone needs to come out with an incredibly quiet mechanical gaming keyboard and gaming mouse because it would be an instant bestseller.

I think the 50g/45g is just grams of actuation force and most likely indistinguishable from each other. Although the less pressure needed maybe the less noise? Probably hard to tell the difference though.

Reds and browns are silent keys. They only make moise if you bottom them out, in theory. I say in theory because obviously there is SOME noise, but typically they are quite quiet. Blacks are heavier linear keys like the reds, they are probably the best for that.

I'm still trying to understand because I'm new to all of this. So red and blue would be quiet and not bottom out with o-rings? Browns with o-rings would be quiet too...just a different actuation point? Thanks!

Nononono, Blues are loud on purpose, they have an added click to them. Reds and browns don't click, if you add o-rings they will be quite silent.

Sorry if I said that in a confusing way but dop NOT buy blues if you want to stay quiet. x3

I know I'm a silence freak but I'm new to the world of mechanical keyboards. So now I know I want red or brown with o-rings. Thanks man!

Huh? Blue isn't silent, it has an audible click each time a key is depressed. I think you'd meant to say Brown instead as Brown does a tactile feedback when depressed (the tactile feel isn't as acute as Blue) but without the 'click'. If silence is a major concern, you can add o-rings which would effectively cancel out any sound when you bottom out. Try the Logitech G710+ (if you can find any demo units), it has MX Brown switch with pre-installed o-rings.....I've never tried them myself as I don't mind clicks and tactile feedback, and o-rings take away some of that mechanical 'feel' that I so like about mechanical keyboards.

Yes I did, I should have edited that. I made a derp :P

Changed my mind about Razer completely after reading some reviews of malfunctioning products and poor customer support. I been dealing with Logitech throughout my entire computing experience. So...

Logitech G910 Orion Spark RGB Mechanical Gaming Keyboard + o-rings - hits in December and will interface with my Android.

Logitech G502 Proteus Core Tunable Gaming Mouse - I like the freedom to choose because high dpi may take some getting used to...

Logitech G440 Hard Mouse Pad - I keep getting burn holes in my cloth pad from smoking! I need a fireproof mouse pad!
