Best HOTAS system for Elite: Dangerous/Star Citizen

So I have been shopping around for peripherals for my new PC build, and looking at these HOTAS setups, I cannot decide which I would prefer or which I think is superior. Even the $400 Thrustmaster Warthog has it's cons. So my question to the LTT forums is, Just what do you think is the best??

Another thing I am curious about: Can you mix and match throttles and sticks from different brands?

the x55 is a good choice but try and test before you buy also it is possible to mix and mach throttle and stick but it all depends on how they connect to your pc and how much setting up your prepared to do

I don't mind having to go through initial setup upon first using it, and I've noticed that many throttles are vastly different in terms of button layouts, which is important especially in Elite: Dangerous when trying to map a button for lateral thrusters for side slipping. I'd prefer to have an 8 or 4 way hat for that. I know the X52 and X52 pro have an 8-way hat on the throttle but I'm not sure if I like where it's positioned (to be used with the index finger instead of the thumb) I'm not sure where the X-55 Rhino's 8-way hat is, and I have heard that the X52's stick is better (x55 being more stiff in the bad way) I'd like to hear from anyone who owns a rhino especially.

I know I'm late to this thread, but I heard that CIG (The Star Citizen guys) are designing a flight stick specifically for Star Citizen. So keep that in mind. I was looking at the Thrustmaster this morning When I remembered that piece of info.

I've been playing Elite: Dangerous with a Thrustmaster T.Flight HOTAS X, and it's great.
