Alright guys i know the i7 is much better, but is it worth it to spend a lot of money to upgrade to this cpu? I will be video editing on Sony Vegas and gaming of coarse. How much faster will rendering be and about how many more frames ( a general idea) will i be getting on most typical triple a games such as far cry, skyrim, battlefield, and most other games. Thanks very much for the help it is much appreciated.

a Xeon 1230 or 1231 is something to consider. It's essentially an i7-4770/4790 without the iGPU.

I know and in fact that was the cpu i was going to get but now microcenter has a 4790k for $250 which is the same price as the xeon but with higher clock speeds and the ability to oc. Still thought do you think this will be a worthy upgrade?

Ah 6300 and a 4690k isnt even up for comparison

A i3 would be a better comparison

Ok i am sorry but idk what you are talking about i have the 6300 and my friend has a i3 and they perform extremely close and in some cases my 6300 actually beats his i3 so honestly it wouldn't be a good upgrade at all. Thanks for trying to help though.

Alright i think i am going to, i just don't want to get it and not get much more performance out of it. Thanks.

4790k is a no-brainer and will totally be worth it. Be sure to get a Z97 board, though!

I looked at some charts1, and I looked up different prices from newegg2,3,4. Comparing Δprice / Δperformance between the 4770K (which should perform about the same as the 4790K) and the FX 6300, I get about $2.25 per one second decrease in render times. Compare that to the FX 8350 which is about $0.59 per one second decrease in render times. The former seems rather steep to me.

@The ginger gamer The 4790k in even a multithreaded application is still faster than a 9590 if you overclock it. I hope that is enough for you. lol

if you render allot of video, then yes the 4790K is worth every single penny. :)

I wouldnt even bother with an i5 if you can afford a 4790k.

But yeah thats me :)

If you have a Micro center near you, the 4790K goes for $250,- over there.

If video editing is a big part of what you do, i7. No brained. Better performance all around no matter what you do. Its not even a fair comparison between the twom
