Custom Testbench WIP [first Build Log]

FirstDose

Welcome to my first Build Log.

I had an old Cooler Master Case which I did not need anymore. So I thougt of something I could built with it.

So I came up with the idea to build my own custom Testbench because I always wanted one.

Hardware I plan to use for now:

Mainboard: MSI MD-7380

CPU: Core Duo @ 3.0GHz

GPU: GTX 9800+ (not a 980 :D)

PSU: Xilence 600W something

SSD: Intel 80GB

RAM: Corsair DDR2 xms2

I know that this is not the newest Hardware :D but it's the only thing I have at the moment.

At first I ripped all the plastic parts off it. (no picks. sry forgot to take some)

Since there wasn't a single srew in the case and it only was hold together by rivets, it took me a while to get the mainboard tray out there.

This is the rest of the case.

Then I took the mainboard tray and cut a cutout for backplates and two cutouts for cables.

Then I was sanding off the coating.

I took one more part from the case and that's the piece where you screw in your pcie cards.

Now I have to paint it black and it will hopefully will look aweseome. :)

How are you planning on supporting the bracket for the PCIe cards?

On the lower part of the bracket are holes where I can just screw it on the main tray.

That holds them together pretty good and when you put a card in it and screw it into the bracket it it will get much more stable.

Sweet, I have a few case's laying around and have been planning to do the same thing. Keen to see how your's turns out.

Looking at those holes I reckon a little bit of split corrugated cable tubing would make them look nice and prevent cutting cables when passing them in and out. Either that or some pinchweld.

Thank you and great idea. I will look if I can find something like that.

It looks much better now but unfortuned my spray can was empty, so I wasn't able to fix the little bit.

Now I have to wait for a new can to arrive :(

Since I could'nt finish the paint job, I started to work on the legs of the testbench.

Unfortunately I can not use the original Psu bracket because there is no way I can attach it.

Well, then I am just gonna make my own.

I took a sidepanel and measured how big the piece must be.

Then cut it out with a jigsaw.

After that I used a Dremel to cut the inner part.

The last thing I did was sanding of the coating.
