Boot drive selection behaving weirdly

TheMarius97

I have 2 HDDs and 1 SSD where I boot from in my system, aswell as an additional sata-device, which is an optical drive.

I today went ahead to install windows updates and then restart my computer. It did not boot up and threw me into the bios with Postcode AE (Legacy Boot Event). That went away with disabling fast boot mode. Then it again threw me into the bios on restart with Postcode A2 (IDE Detect).

I tried re-setting the primary boot device, but only one of my HDDs and the optical drive show up for selection.

However when I go into the sata-setup page I can see all my drives.

I have never previously experienced problems with my drives, nor have I changed any bios settings. I got my computer to boot and work normally after selecting my ssd manually for one time boot though.

(Occurs after multiple restarts)

I checked that all my drives were plugged in correctly (both sata and power).

I haven't tried a cmos reset though. Any ideas where this could come from?

Update:

AHCI Mode is selected.

btw I use arch

increase the post delay/IDE detection timeout to 3 to 5 seconds

sounds like a drive is taking longer then then normal to spool up

I tried out some more things:

I had to go into the BBS-Priorities for hdds. Then just reselect my ssd as primary boot option. Now it shows up again in the boot drive selection, along with all the other drives.

Everything works as expected again.

I still wonder why they all were removed from that list though.

btw I use arch
