Really strange resource usage in AC Unity!

It's common knowledge now that AC Unity performs like ass on PC, but its performance doesn't really make any sense!

Turning down the detail settings doesn't always affect the framerate, or the stuttering, and even changing the resolution doesn't always help!

I opened up MSI afterburner whilst playing it to have a look at what it was using, and got some pretty odd results! (All settings at max, AA disabled, 2560x1440. SLI 780s and 2500k@ 4.5Ghz)

AC%20unity%20Resource%20usage..png

The GPU usage is really inconsistent, and the VRAM usage is too! (Ignore the VRAM usage on GPU2, sometimes Afterburner breaks and shows stupid values for this.\

Just thought it was quite interesting. I wonder what is causing this! Are they using any brand new tech, or do they just suck at using DX11?

Do you expect us to say anything? Game is horrible optimized.

how are your oerclocks  are they usually stable

Please follow your topics guys, it's very important! CoC F.A.Q  Please use the corresponding PC part picker link for your country USA, UK, Canada, AustraliaSpain, Italy, New Zealand and Germany

also if you find anyone with this handle in games its most likely me so say hi

also this hugly it is shit because it pools too much for dx11 to handle

CPU overclock is super stable, and GPUs aren't overclocked.

have you tried pooting on k-boost and up power target and restart

You need to start eliminating variables to be able to analyse the info properly. I would suggest doing some benchmarks at really low graphical details. Basically reduce the graphical demands by running at a low resolution and turn all settings to low. Run some benchmarks just for a comparison. See if frame times are more consistent. Check your CPU usage as well. Then compare high details vs low details. Try have a consistent benchmark run if you want to overlay the graphs to compare like with like.

Do you know how to get Msi afterburner and uplay overlay both working ? coz. since WD, all ubisoft games doesn't support Uplay overlay if MSI afterburner overlay or even if the app is running

I never use the overlay of Afterburner. I fucks with everything! Just reinstall it and uncheck "RivaTuner server" or whatever it says, that way you don't have the overlay and can have afterburner running despite any other overlays you might have. If i wanna check resource usage I just tab out and look at the graphs.

API, draw calls, non optimization on all platforms as far as culling NPC's and putting too much crap on the screen. CPU is the limiting factor. AC Unity is actually MUCH better optimized on core usage than Far Cry 4. Far Cry 4 is mostly 1 core and it chokes when that 1 core is maxed and you see the same rollercoaster with GPU.

They basically made a game that requires a decent PC CPU AND and a low level API, that has no low level API, and the console cpu's are too weak even with the low level API.

Lock the game at 30 FPS and push graphics as high as you can go imo. CPU won't have as big of swings. Console version dips to teens, so at least you have a good 30 fps version. Instructions for both Nvidia and AMD in this guide. You can sometimes get by just by using adaptive half vsync on nvidia and not bothering with Riva in afterburner. Depends on the game.

Does it suck we have to play the game at 30 fps for it to be pretty and run smoothly? Yeah. Can we do anything about it? Nope. You can play at ugly settings with swings or play at 30. Your choice. 30 with a console controller ain't bad. 30 with a mouse/keyboard not great...
