TaC_1841
Go to solution Solved by Aniallation,

Well, or wath other LGA 1155 CPU, you would recommend to me? Mainly for gaming

i5 34xx.

A 3440 and 3470 won't make a big difference, if any at all, in gaming.

Hi, i need your help for chosing a new CPU for upgrade my rig, right now i got an i3 3220 & Asus p8b75m/csm.

i5, the Pentium is not more than an overclocking toy, especially when used for gaming.

actually it is.

But so many people think it's a freakin' beast when overclocked and kills quadcores which is just not true.

that is correct. but for gaming its perfectly fine.

note that the i5 he linked costs three times as much.

I know that the i5 is way more expensive, but I see way to much people who combine that CPU with a 970 or r9 280x. And for such high requirements you just need more on the CPU Side.

you could upgrade your z97 build later on. then it makes sense.

Actually it has quite a shitty framerate over time especially when OCed. Makes sense as then there would be absolutely no reason to pony up for a proper Core i3 but the fact is that the Core i3 will actually get you smooth frame rates over time.

Ya it's mostly smoke and mirrors hype. People see the high 5Ghz OC and framerates and think it's good when in fact though the max frame rates might be high the mins are terrible and the frame rate over time leaves allot of stuttering. Makes sense as then there would be no need to pony up for a proper Core i3 then.

We don't intend to compare them, but People keep using it in builds where a i5 would be better.

i5

and yes the pentium kills most "amd" quad cores for a few reasons

1. amd has no upgrade path beyond there current gen silicon/fabs you buy a AMD platform you are locked in for this generation

2. amd's ipc is a lot lower then intels this allows the Pentium to go toe to toe with a amd's quads

3. intels memory performance is much better then amd's

_________

if you can get a 2500k I say stick with your current board there isn't a whole lot of difference between haswell and sandybridge

if anything sandybridge clocks better then haswell

if you can find an i5 at good price to fit your current motherboard it would be good cause intel hasnt improved much since sandy bridge, id suggest looking for an unlocke one.
