Samsung Files Complaint with ITC to Block Nvidia Chips From US Markets

ImNotARobot

It appears that Samsung has decided to take their lawsuit with Nvidia to the next level. Yesterday, Samsung filed an official complaint with the US International Trade Commission to block Nvidia's graphics chips from being sold in the United States.

The legal battle began in September when Nvidia filed its own ITC complaint against Qualcomm Inc. and Samsung over patented ways to improve graphics. It’s asking the agency to block imports of the latest Galaxy phones and tablets that use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon graphics processing units or Samsung’s Exynos processors.

An Nividia spokesperson commented on news of this complaint.

‘We have not seen the complaint so can’t comment, but we look forward to pursuing our earlier filed ITC action against Samsung products,’’ Hector Marinez, a spokesman for Santa Clara, California-based Nvidia, said in an e-mailed statement.

Two other computer parts manufacturers were named in the newest ITC complaint by Samsung, Biostar Microtech International and Elitegroup Computer Systems.

Yea they started it because Samsung used their architectures which is illegal so Nvidia is trying to take Samsung to court so Samsung's reply is no and we will ban your stuff.

AFAIK samsung doest make any GPU designs

they use mali or adreno which is supplied by qualcomm or ARM

nvidia should have sued ARM instead

Nvidia wants to stop sales of Samsung phones not only the Exynos chip (which is fair enough) but the Qualcomm one as well, which is ridiculous imo since Samsung doesn't even make the chip. Also Samsung is saying Nvidia has infringed on there stuff, whether or not that's true remains to be seen, but I would try to refrain from making statements like that as there's always two sides to a story.

No... NVIDIA claims they used their architecture in GPUs that do not belong to Samsung. Samsung is just one customer of Qualcomm, Imagination Tech, ARM... well not just one, it's the biggest one. What NVIDIA claims and what the justice will dictate is very different.

NVIDIA didn't randomly choose Samsung, they went after big money.

I was referring to the issue the 840 EVOs have (or had, don't know if they fixed it) with old files.

Samsung has pretty much everything, even life insurance.

Yep, I think people tend to forget that Samsung is literally involved in just about every industry on earth, including industrial mining, financial and healthcare, etc.

yup :D Not to mention that Samsung didn't steal jack shit, even if they ARE using NVIDIA tech. They don't design their GPU tech, they license it from Imagination Tech or Qualcomm whoever else they choose at any given phone cycle. They bought a technology from a supplier. How is Samsung supposed to know that their biggest supplier supposedly stole GPU tech?

Yea they started it because Samsung used their architectures which is illegal so Nvidia is trying to take Samsung to court so Samsung's reply is no and we will ban your stuff.

I don't believe this has been proven yet, just a claim by NVIDIA. Please post a source confirming this if you're gonna say with certainly that they stole NVIDIA tech.
