Help choosing a Ultra Wide monitor - under 400?

xxx4reggie

Hey guys,

I've owned my HannG for a while now: HZ281. While is is a great monitor, my son is in need for one so I'm giving him this one and buying a new.

Question is, with all the new stuff out there, which is the best fit for me?

Some things to note:

  • Not a 4K fanatic, I don't see myself going 4K anytime soon
  • I mainly play Hearthstone, WOW, D3 and surf the web plus YouTube (Linus Channel on Fav!
  • I need a 27" or bigger
  • NEEDS to be ultra widescreen, tired of the normal widescreen
  • I need a bigger resolution then 1980x1080
  • Need it to be slim, the Hanns is a big cow
  • Cheap, budget is less then $400
  • My GPU is GTX770 SC (this will be it for a while)
  • Would like dual monitors but not needed, rather have a nice main then crappy duals
  • New to TN/IPS so whichever is better for gaming
  • Needs to be LED
  • Would LOVE curved!

OK That's the list, sorry if it is long.

Please help!

Choices:

  1. MX299Q
  2. VN279QL
  3. 29UM55
  4. VN289QL
  5. 298X4QJAB
  6. q2963Pm
  7. PB298Q

Try this, it's a tad over budget but 27 inch 1080p monitors will look rubbish so... Ya :) 1440p is the way to go.

thanks guys,

question, are there others ones as well? I don't mind if it's over 300 by a little.

Again, I'm not really a monitor guy so pardon the new questions.

That looks almost the same as my Hanns, will I notice a difference?

Is there any ultra widescreen ones or curves ones around that price range? I'm really hoping for a ultra wide.

OP/ if you do buy a monitor come back and share the results. this hannG........... 1920x1200 res? I have one of those and dread buying a replacement at this time. my next monitor will probably be ips but the cost and the current available 16:9 resolutions don't sit right with me,. want to get another 16:10 in the same size (28")-ish. somethijng to replace it at this time would cost in the area of $700. the new resolutions aren't fully supported and the graphics cards won't properly run them. maybe an inexpensive 22" for a $100 for your son and keep what you have?

I think when I do replace it, I want a ultra widescreen. I checked out the one people posted and while it is an awesome monitor, it reminds me of the Hanns. Normal widescreen isn't really cutting it for me.

I updated my list again.

Please advise guys.

How does this one look?

any input?

From video reviews I've seen and other things I've read, that monitor has a great screen but pretty crappy build

quality. I personally wouldn't get it for just purely based on the build quality, but it's entirely up to you mate. :)

ON A 7 MONTH BREAK FROM THESE LTT FORUMS. WILL BE BACK ON NOVEMBER 5th.
