Future proof computer for 3D Designer.

Go to solution Solved by squid4fl,

I would suggest going for the Intel i7-5820K. Its much more affordable than the 5930K which basically only has the advantage of having more pci-express lanes. Those you only need when using 3 or more graphics cards or other very bandwidth intensive cards (raid etc.), Linus also made a video about that:

Otherwise solid build! Good luck with your studies

Hello everyone!

I'm basically new the building my own PC. I have previously had 2 laptops and a Windows XP desktop that were all prebuilt and bought for me. I am now 18 and basically looking to move on to bigger and brighter things with my computing experience and also within my future. I have put together a list of components that i think will benfit me over the course of the next 10-15 years, give or take, and will allow me to game and also carry out the tasks that i need too. These tasks at the moment will be focussed around my University work which will be nearly all 3D Based. I have some idea on how computers work and everything and have a feeling i will be fine building it. I just need expereienced users to give me their opinion on future proof computer building that i don't have to touch for awhile. Obviously i know the Thermal Paste needs changing every couple of years or so, but that's a minor thing compared to buying a new graphics card or a new HDD/SDD.

Anyways! Heres the list of all the parts that i currently have on my Amazon Wishlist ready to be ordered when i have the money to order each item. I also have a couple of items already which i will list at the top of the list below so that you can see how far i currently am, and what advice you would like to give.

I was originally going to. I just wanted to see if people knew if there were any cheaper places to buy any of the parts from. I'm not that bothered on price but if i can get something for around £20+ cheaper. It's the obvious choice to do :)

be sure that the software ur using will work well with gaming cards

read this

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/specviewperf-12-workstation-graphics-benchmark,3778-19.html

Consumer Graphics Cards with Gaming Drivers

Time and time again, we've shown that desktop graphics cards with their gaming-optimized drivers don’t fare well when it comes to professional tasks. They're sometimes able to skate by in the private and semi-professional sector, depending on the application (and especially if it's DirectX-based). But as soon as you start messing with complex OpenGL applications, it's over.

AMD’s Catalyst driver fails miserably twice in a row. Nvidia’s GeForce driver doesn't run into those egregious display errors. However, it slows down so much that performance simply isn't usable.

If your grave doesn't say "rest in peace" on it You are automatically drafted into the skeleton war.
