Should I get a 144hz monitor?

I'm planning to buy a gtx 970 in about a week. Is it worth it for me to also get a 144hz gaming monitor? I've heard that you don't need a 144hz monitor unless you get 100+ fps in games. Is this true?

Well if you aren't playing at higher resolutions than 1080p, nor the highest settings in games, you could get enough frames. Though 144hz monitors doesn't have as good color accuracy as IPS panels.
