Aerocool Dead silence Fans

TBNRunity

Hello, I was just wondering what your guys thoughts are on these fans. I started out at looking at the corsair ap + af but all the reviews and comments I saw are that they are not that good. I am mainly looking for a fan that looks great but also performance good-great. If you have any other suggestions I am more then glad to take a look at them.

I've heard mixed review myselfs, with the worst one being from @Faceman, but I've heard enough bad things from multiple people to outweigh any good reviews.

It's really sad, as I'd love to get several blue ones for my build :/

Good looking, good numbers, not PWM (Downside). Never used them, probably never will as while it seems to be a past time of mine, I can't actually afford to buy every fan that catches my attention. @spwath really likes them.

The aerocools right? Not the corsair ones?

I've never seen them in person and thats the only way really to know how good a fan is, however I'm pretty sure @spwath really likes them, and he has a good sense in fans.

I am having the most difficult time finding the right fan for me. I can't find fans that have good reviews, perform good, and look great. Corsair sp and af's look amzing but don't get great reviews, same with the aerocool ds. Noctua fans don't do it for me. I dislike how they look very much unlike Linus. I am probably going to be using headphones so is it just worth getting the sp fans. I am trying to make my build look as nice as possible and still get great performance. Painting dominator platinums black, asus maximus vii formula mobo, changing green led's in my 980 to red. But my real question is corsair sp fans worth it if I am using headphones, and I am assuming they are pwm so I can just have them at low rpms when my computer is at idle. If you took the time to read this thanks :) And all feedback is appreciated.

How much money do you want to spend? and what country you in?

If you don't mind spending abit, get some noiseblocker blacksilent pros.

I have no budget, and I live in the u.s. However, the asthetics on that fan just don't do it for me. But I will ask you this. If I am using headphones, will the corsair sp's most likely be fine?

Everything in my build was so easy to pick out, haha.... Until it came down to the fans..

If you really don't care about noise then yeah, the corsairs will be fine. Aerocool DS will be better though because at least they are quieter and still perform well.

They are really good, blow lots of air, relativity quiet. Pretty quiet at 5v, not the quietest, but blow alot of air. Wayyyyu better than spectre pro. Blow more air than ap123 but louder. Blow more air than sp qe and better sounding

These fans are the best looking fans I've come across, so the coolness factor is high.  The problem is, these fans had some issues for me.

I first had the fans on my motherboard.  When connected through my motherboard, I ran the fans off DC voltage/constant RPM.  NOT PWM. When running off the motherboard, I was getting a constant flickering of the LEDs and ramping up, slowing down of the fans, constantly.  It had a bad noise because it was constantly going +/- 200rpm, and the LEDs flickering was a no-no.  It wasn't until I set the speed to 100% constant that the flickering and fan speed stopped.  Thinking it had to do with my motherboard not supplying enough power, I decided to buy a Sentry3 Fan Controller.  I needed one anyways because I have so many fans, so it was a worthwhile purchase and I do really like my Sentry, recommend it to anyone looking for one.

The problem didn't go away with the Sentry though.  This is a more powerful wattage per channel/fan header, so the power supplied should be sufficient.  Problem was, anything below 70% fan speed(1250rpm) and I was still getting flickering LEDs and inconsistent fan speed.  I HAVE to run these fans at 70% or above, otherwise the flickering and inconsistent speed happens.  This wouldn't be a problem, but these fans are louder than their name leads on.  At 1000rpm is when they really start to become noticeable, its not bad, but not what I expected from a $15 fan.  My Cooler Master Blade Master 120s which are $8 are more quiet than these fans, and I have them running at the same 1200rpm.  The Blade Masters aren't the best looking fans on the market, but they are incredible performance.

I keep the fans because they look amazing and really tie my build together.  They aren't radiator fans in my case, just regular case fans for airflow.  If you want looks, there is no better fan, just keep performance expectations in check.

The flickering issue is very common with undervolted LED fans, the power is shared so when you lower the voltage, the lights don't get enough. Part of the reason s many people recommend LED strips and non-LED fans over LED fans.

I haven't undervolted the fans.  Unless you mean not enough voltage being supplied to the fan, which is what I am referring to.  If they made these fans in a non-LED version, I would have bought them because I already have LEDs.  I just want others to be aware that these fans aren't going to perform up to their $15-$18 price tag.  The look of the fan definitely deserves the price though, making it such a catch 22.

Lowering speed when not using PWM fans is undervolting unless I'm mistaken.

ahh.  I use them on a fan controller, which gives me a range of 40-100%.  Same with when on my motherboard using DC/RPM control.

So i had 2 140 mm DeadSilence fans a while ago.

i sent them both back because i am extrememley sensitive to absolute silence!

They are not perfect. They are very quiet. They are good for the money. They provide good airflow and static pressure. BUT the have rather thick fan blades which leads to slightly more vibrations that are transfered to the case. This is why i didn't keep them, but i am very sensitive to noise.

They stink a bit like softeners and the "sleeving" is not good but they are good fans and they look bomb awesome! They start at 4V aswell so they are good fans!

I feel like their QC really sucks considering the near 50/50 replies from both sides....which sadly I say is even worse since you can't even know what to expect.

I see you picked up 3x SilentWings 2 140s. I'm also looking for 3 140s for my Define R4. Can you comment on your experience with the SilentWings, in comparison to the DeadSilence and stock R4 (SilentSeries) fans?

@TheSTS

Sure. :)

I started off with the two Fractal fans in the front and a corsair AF 140 in the back which broke pretty soon. :D I then switched to One Silent Wings 2 to replace the corsair fan. After a while i got annoyed by the Fractal fans and couldn't decide between the Aercools DS fans and more silent wings and went for the dead silence fans first but soon realized that i rather want the silent wings.

So, the fractal fans aren't bad. They to their job well and have adequate static pressure. However after a few months of running my PC they developed an annoying clickery noise. They are good place holder imo but nothing special.

The Aerocool fans are really good fans for the money. They have a good static pressure - for 140 mm fans at least - you can feel the air being directed at the back. They also look amazing and start at low voltage (~4V). The only problem i that their fan blades are a bit thicker, which on the one hand removes any high pitch wooshing noises but also leads to avery small imbalance/ vibrations. And because i am an absolute silence freak i got rid of them.

The silent wings are super silent! They have an okay static pressure and some say they would struggle in a restricted area like the Define R4s front but i can deny that. They don't run crazy fast (1000 rpm or sth like that) but that's enough to get the Define R4 properly ventilated. I never had problems with overheating, my open air cooler GPUs that i had in the last couple of months all ran fine. My CPU is also hovering around 60°C under load so I'd say that's pretty good. The airflow that's created by 3 silent wings is definiteley enough for a 1 CPU 1 GPU setup.

What else can i say about the fans... erm, it was kind of difficult putting them into the front bracket of the Define R4 because of their round, centered frame. You can just squeeze them in there and they will hold on by their rubber lips. If you look closeley at the front bracket you see that the top and bottom 140 mm holes are not existent but rather are replaced by pins that would normally go into the hole of a 140 mm fan's frame. So what i did is cut them off and drill the holes. But, it is still not easy to use the silent wings' rubber mounting then because the rubber pin's heads have to fit underneath the fan filter, which requires a bit of force but is possible. :P

So far the silent wings are superb. Next to no vibrations... the sound they make/ the air that flows through them makes is very subtle.

I'd say, if you have a good return policy on your fans, get both, the Aerocools and the silent wings and try them out inside your case. If not, then maybe get the Aerocools and see if you like them as they are.

Edit: there will be Silent Wings 3 coming out soon. I'd expect they will showcase them on computex 2015 (or whatever show is in january). They'll feature a 6 pole motors instead of 4 and will run even smoother.

who cares...
