Mozilla Ends Relationship with Google

GoodBytes

Mozilla could not fall into agreement with the search engine giant Google for support. Mozilla normally get ~85% of it's funding from Google via its own users using Google search engine in the web browser.

Google refusal to fall into agreement with Mozilla is mostly due that Google has it's own web browser which is now more popular. This could be a tactic for Google to try and crush Firefox, and gain more market share.

All is not lost however. Mozilla made a deal with Yahoo for U.S (and probably the same for Canada and other regions, but we have to wait and see), and go with Yandex in Russia (a popular search engine there), and Baidu, another very popular search engine in China. The deal is for 5 years, and the good news, is that part of the deal, Yahoo won't be tracking users, if the option in Firefox is enabled to not say to not be tracked. The deal starts in December,

That deal, last renewed for a three-year period in 2011, has come to an end, and this time it won't be renewed. Mozilla announced today that the free browser vendor is switching to a range of different search providers. In the US, Firefox will now default to using Yahoo (which continues to be powered by Microsoft's Bing engine); in Russia it will use Yandex, and in China, Baidu.

Mozilla and Yahoo have signed a five-year deal. As part of the deal, Yahoo is going to start honoring the Do Not Track feature when used by Firefox users to limit Yahoo's ability to track user activity across the Web through advertisements. Yahoo is also going to roll out a new search interface for American Firefox users, starting in December.

Yahoo search engine uses Bing search engine (but modified. Search results aren't the same between Bing and Yahoo Search), which is under consideration by Microsoft to make it Open Source (well the back-end part). This is also good news for Bing, as the increase of searches made will increase it s ability to start being better as it learns.

Mozilla has yet to make an official announcement on this. It must be noted that you CAN change the search engine to what you want, like right now, so if you want to use Google search engine, you will still be able to. It's just the default search engine will be set to Yahoo in the US at least, Yandex for Russia, and Baidu for China. All it means is that Mozilla won't get any funding from Google anymore. So if you change search engine to Google, Mozilla won't get money at every search you do.

Hello Chrome; my favourite botnet. How I've missed you...

You can switch to Google search engine in Firefox. Nothing will block you to do such, much like right now. It's just means that the first time you install Firefox on a new PC, and you happen to not use Firefox Sync, you need to click and change the default search engine.

You can switch to Google search engine in Firefox.

Chrome has YouTube in Glorious 60FPS and also, if Firefox is making a "Google style" deal of any kind with Yahoo then I will have to end my Firefox usage. Fuck Yahoo.

Firefox can do so much. If Google decides to make this feature Chrome exclusive, Mozilla needs to make a hack around it. But that would mean that Google can block Firefox users to YouTube, much like they did with Windows Phone users with the YouTube App done by Microsoft, as Google refused to make it for the device.

Part of it is due to the lack of full HTML5 support. Also once more, fuck Yahoo.

Firefox is not near the browser it used to be. Funny how chrome came out as pretty much a lame Firefox imitation and now is a lot better. I mean they are both pretty bad, but the roles have certainly reversed.

muh specs

Gaming and HTPC (reparations)- ASUS 1080, MSI X99A SLI Plus, 5820k- 4.5GHz @ 1.25v, asetek based 360mm AIO, RM 1000x, 16GB memory, 750D with front USB 2.0 replaced with 3.0  ports, 2 250GB 850 EVOs in Raid 0 (why not, only has games on it), some hard drives

Screens- Acer preditor XB241H (1080p, 144Hz Gsync), LG 1080p ultrawide, (all mounted) directly wired to TV in other room

Stuff- k70 with reds, steel series rival, g13, full desk covering mouse mat

All parts black

Workstation(desk)- 3770k, 970 reference, 16GB of some crucial memory, a motherboard of some kind I don't remember, Micomsoft SC-512N1-L/DVI, CM Storm Trooper (It's got a handle, can you handle that?), 240mm Asetek based AIO, Crucial M550 256GB (upgrade soon), some hard drives, disc drives, and hot swap bays

Screens- 3  ASUS VN248H-P IPS 1080p screens mounted on a stand, some old tv on the wall above it.

Stuff- Epicgear defiant (solderless swappable switches), g600, moutned mic and other stuff.

Laptop docking area- 2 1440p korean monitors mounted, one AHVA matte, one samsung PLS gloss (very annoying, yes). Trashy Razer blackwidow chroma...I mean like the J key doesn't click anymore. I got a model M i use on it to, but its time for a new keyboard. Some edgy Utechsmart mouse similar to g600. Hooked to laptop dock for both of my dell precision laptops. (not only docking area)

Shelf- i7-2600 non-k (has vt-d), 380t, some ASUS sandy itx board, intel quad nic. Currently hosts shared files, setting up as pfsense box in VM. Also acts as spare gaming PC with a 580 or whatever someone brings. Hooked into laptop dock area via usb switch

I used to love Mozilla so much. Every time they would do an update, it would break(during my experience with it). Last time I used it was about a year ago. Should see how it's doing.

Chrome is full of bugs. Too many if you ask me. In my opinion, there really isn't a good web browser out right now. In my mind, the perfect browser would be super, super basic and light weight, but have the ability to be expanded in a way the user wants to be almost custom for the user. Think FooBar2000, but a web browser :P Firefox and Chrome used to be very close to this, but not anymore.

the coding flaws he probably refers to is how bloated chrome is its not longer the fastest one, also it eats a lot of ram and its heavy on the system, though that's kinda to be expect if you transform it into a mini OS with a dedicated app store

this is one of the greatest thing that has happened to me recently, and it happened on this forum, those involved have my eternal gratitude http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/198850-update-alex-got-his-moto-g2-lets-get-a-moto-g-for-alexgoeshigh-unofficial/ :')

Firefox and Mozilla won't die. At least they didn't begin slacking Firefox making it a resource heavy, and bloated web browser.. Chrome has too many bugs and crashes from my experience.. The only place it works for me is at school. :(
