PC crashing *R-R-R-R-R*

Noilliz
Go to solution Solved by ionbasa,

So all of the dump files point to the nvidia driver. You mentioned you were running 344.16, can you please try updating to this driver here: http://www.nvidia.com/download/driverResults.aspx/79891/en-us

The driver I linked to  is version 344.75.

The dump file pretty much point out one issues: VIDEO_TDR_FAILURE.

Here is the a debug output for informational purposes:

If even after updating the driver, and still experience these crashes, try rolling back to a previous driver version. If that still does not work, it may possibly be a bad GPU, and I would recommend getting it RMA'd.

Hello everyone,

Last week i made a post about my computer freezing while playing games. You guys told me to do a bios update, and so i did. This did fix the issue temporarily.

The issue came back soon after i marked the topic answered.

So i made a video to show you guys whats going on.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_QezpS_xUvU&feature=youtu.be

It looks like overheating to me but i may be wrong. Can you check the temps?

Beware of him that is slow to anger; for when it is long coming, it is the stronger when it comes, and the longer kept. Abused patience turns to fury.

It looks like overheating to me but i may be wrong. Can you check the temps?

Both CPU and GPU temps Don't go above 60℃ under load and stay around 25℃ on idle, room temp 21℃. All my hardware is inside the Corsair 230t case. with 6 Case fans running.

Front: 2x 120mm intake

Bottom: 1x 120mm intake

Back: 1x 120mm exhaust

Top: 2x 120mm exhaust

(exhaust RPM is slightly lower to keep a positive pressure inside the case)

Cpu cooler: Intel stock cooler (replacement cumming around Christmas)

Gpu cooler: TWIN FROZR V

So i don't think its overheating, i just walked into my room to find my pc frozen at the desktop.

I wish i had the machine here to do some diagnostic on it.Ok lets take it step by step.If you leave the pc running without doing any actions on it,it will still freeze?

Have you tried using just 1 stick of ram?If not shut down the pc pull one out power it on and run the bench mark if it still freezes try the other stick(one at a time) and come back with the results

I just did 4 runs, 2 runs with stick A and 2 runs with stick B. pc froze within 30 seconds on all 4 runs

So is not the ram. That is out at least.Did you try using the integrated graphics card?If not do it.Power off the system remove the gpu and install the intel vga driver from here(already selected the os) and do a benchmark no need for heavy settings just a light run.Come back with the results

(i switched from a gtx 760 to a gtx 970 yesterday. the problem did exist last week as well and since i did a clean OS installation i doubht its the GPU, (call me dumb for getting a new gpu while your pc is broken but i was able to get my gtx 970 for 200 euro's))

Just do the test when you have the time.If the gpu is out at least i know for sure that is not the psu because it won't power the 970(yes in case the psu is broken underload it can cause problems but since you will run the onboard gpu it will clarify this).I will follow the topic to know when you will reply

Does it matter if the GTX 970 is installed when I install the VGA driver? or do I have video output without the 970 installed.

You should take it out and then install the driver.Just pull it out and use the onboard graphics card you will find the connector on the back panel of the MB

Alright i did run 2 tests without the GTX 970 connected to neither my mainboard nor my power supply.

First test was on basic settings, here is the CPUID HWMonitor result.

And here are the results for the 2nd test on Extreme settings.

The pc had no freezes, and as i'm writing this post i'm having no issue's at all. What should be tested next?

Since the pc is running fine now without any freezes is one of two things.Either the psu is damaged which is the most likely one or the gpu is dying which is unlikely since you just bought it.From now on there's nothing i can do since i can't fix either the psu or the gpu

The only this i can suggest you right now is this.If you can test the gtx 970 on any other pc and do just a short test just a benchmark or running a games and there are no problems at all you will know that the psu is dead.I can't fix the psu as for the 970 if that is the problem the warranty should fix it for you or a firmware update

I still have warrently on my hardware so ill start by contacting the store to get a replacement for my PSU since i highly doubht the GPU is broken, since i had problems with both the GTX 970 and the GTX 760.

I don't usually help with builds and general stuff but since no one tried to help you with this i had to.There would be no point returning the whole pc and waiting 2-3 weeks  just for a new psu

No, i'm not returning the whole pc. I did build it myself (first build) and i'm only planning on sending back the PSU. Sadly i can't call them at this time so i had to send a email.

Hello Natowatt, if checked the PSU myself, and coulden't find anything weird on it.

Idle voltage:

Load voltage:

So ye... the PSU does not seem to be the problem, i did switch out the PSU for an brand new Cooler Master G600 and it has exactly the same problem.

Now I'm going to put my GPU in my friends system and see how it runs there. Do you have any other ideas?

I still think that the psu is the problem.A simple gpu can't cause such problems nor the mb expansion slot.

Check if everything is plugged in securely? Any loose connections could be causing the problem. I suggest that you also look at event viewer in windows control panel under administrative tools. Perhaps it has some clues about the crash.

try a different PCIe slot on the motherboard for the graphics card before you determine something dead.
EDIT: You have determined it is not the PSU, not the RAM, not the CPU, not the OS, whats left? Mobo, and GPU.
You can also try updating your BIOS to the latest version.
But it is looking like mobo.
Try a different PCIe slot, and if it still crashes, put your GPU in another computer and see if it crashes.
