An Old build of mine

unijab

Don't remember the specifics as I started this project a couple years ago, and recently did some updates and changes. I'll post those later when I have time.

Back when I put it together it only had 5 drives in it.

2 x 150G (10k) in raid0

1 x 500G for backups

I'll have to take some more pictures later to show the homemade laptop cage I created to hold the 6 drives.

....

Once I have the funds for a SAS expander and a larger case I'll throw all the old drives back in and grab a few more. Maybe I'll get into the 10TB thread later on.

Im also toying with another idea on how to get some more speed b/t my hypervisor and "SAN"... without buying 10Gb hardware. The atto benchmark I ran on the drives before I installed CentOS were nice (see below).

But then that gets limited to 1Gb over my ethernet LAN.

Let's just say that if I can figure it out how to make it work....I might see 2.5Gb/s and it only cost me about $10 and some time configuring.

Ordered a couple things to beef up the system.

Next configuration change I believe I throw LVM on top of the array for easier expansion. I may also use an img file as the backing store for the iSCSI target instead of the raw device /dev/md1.

And with the hardware upgrades that are coming, I may add some encryption in there also.

I did get the RAM added, but waiting on the putting the Core i3 for another day.

The details about my homemade drive cage are simple. I took a couple of the 3.5" cages from an old HP MSA20 from work and modded them so I could put the drives between them.

Just need enough to be able to backup the data on my 6 drive array because I plan to setup a SAMBA share soon.
