Recently unearthed a box of old hard drives and this particular 40GB Toshiba laptop drive sounds a bit funny.

 

!! HEADPHONE USERS !! : turn down the volume.

What's even funnier is that the OS recognized it and was able to read off of it.  :)

Odd, I edited this using closed-back headphones and felt it was fine.

Have you tried blowing on the cartridge?

If I cut the platters just right it might; but I never though something that runs on a USB power source could output so much heat. I might be able to turn it into a noisy toaster.

Have you tried blowing on the cartridge?

 

The NES era slipped by me. I was using a Sinclair clone and cassettes.

Are my headphones weird or do I have some kind of muffling feature on them which doesn't allow for such loud noises to deafen me?

I always read those warnings and I never really think they're that loud (and no I have them at 50% so it's not me being already deaf)
