What is this "baby" you are talking about? What motherboard chipset does it run on? How much RAM does it have? Is it any good at playing games? How well does it overclock? More importantly, why are you monitoring it with an external device? Surely you could just stress test it with AIDA64 and CrystalDiskMark.

Adding the phrase "for babies" to any product bumps the price up by a disturbing amount... But do baby wearables like the Mimo Lilypad Smart Baby Monitor justify the high price tag?

I feel like I dint get my daily Linus drug/video with this. very disappointed!!  less baby stuff or make a baby channel or make two videos when you wanna post baby stuff(1 baby stuff 1 normal video), so I still get my tech rush!!

There are simple no-nonsense solutions to a lot of problems out there already, and this need to "digitize" and integrate everything into a network of devices is a bubble I'm hoping will burst anyday now. Is a traditional baby monitor perfect? Certainly not, but regular old 49MHz is still a perfectly good band for the job: you need only hear the baby stir and you're through the door to help in a split second. No amount of technology is going to give you peace of mind with your kid.

This video does serve as a good warning, regardless of the situation. A lot of these products do use the false promise of advanced technology to prey on our own insecurities. Anything with a sensor or monitor should always set off warning bells in your head and should make you question whether or not this is something that you really need quanitizied. I somewhat disagree on the fitness bands; I think they do work for some people since it might give someone the kick in the pants they need to get moving, or give them the ability to more easily play the meta game that working out tends to be. But otherwise you're right, these products are being sold to people that simply don't need it and certainly don't want it. They don't provide a magical cure for a lack of a disciplined workout regiment.

Sorry you had to blow 200 bucks on the things, but good job turning it around into a good video message.

IMO, it's not good for a infant to be exposed to all of these electronic devices, especially if it's wireless. Want to monitor your child, then setup a wired security camera or IP camera and use a simple 2-way baby monitor to hear what's going on. The baby is still growing and we don't want any of these electromagnetic radiation to affect their health. Not just the child, but for adults too. Use wire when ever possible.

I feel like this video was made because he did not like the product and feels like he was ripped off. I mean this is tech and it's a tech channel but really the audience is not the right demographic for this video.

Holy crap, an Intel Edison for that thing sounds ridiculously overpowered. That thing runs linux on a 2x 500mhz CPU. It's almost like they had stupidly large profit margins on that thing.

Also, doesn't Edison have WiFi? A much better solution to the pairing issue would be to set up a temporary WiFi network to pair with a device, or you know, use the bluetooth system.

That is one heck of a scam.

It would have worked better if you over-clocked your baby Linus, I think the child is your bottleneck. =P

You can monitor the temperate of your baby...

....

so....

can you overclock her? @LinusTech

muh specs

Gaming and HTPC (reparations)- ASUS 1080, MSI X99A SLI Plus, 5820k- 4.5GHz @ 1.25v, asetek based 360mm AIO, RM 1000x, 16GB memory, 750D with front USB 2.0 replaced with 3.0  ports, 2 250GB 850 EVOs in Raid 0 (why not, only has games on it), some hard drives

Screens- Acer preditor XB241H (1080p, 144Hz Gsync), LG 1080p ultrawide, (all mounted) directly wired to TV in other room

Stuff- k70 with reds, steel series rival, g13, full desk covering mouse mat

All parts black

Workstation(desk)- 3770k, 970 reference, 16GB of some crucial memory, a motherboard of some kind I don't remember, Micomsoft SC-512N1-L/DVI, CM Storm Trooper (It's got a handle, can you handle that?), 240mm Asetek based AIO, Crucial M550 256GB (upgrade soon), some hard drives, disc drives, and hot swap bays

Screens- 3  ASUS VN248H-P IPS 1080p screens mounted on a stand, some old tv on the wall above it.

Stuff- Epicgear defiant (solderless swappable switches), g600, moutned mic and other stuff.

Laptop docking area- 2 1440p korean monitors mounted, one AHVA matte, one samsung PLS gloss (very annoying, yes). Trashy Razer blackwidow chroma...I mean like the J key doesn't click anymore. I got a model M i use on it to, but its time for a new keyboard. Some edgy Utechsmart mouse similar to g600. Hooked to laptop dock for both of my dell precision laptops. (not only docking area)

Shelf- i7-2600 non-k (has vt-d), 380t, some ASUS sandy itx board, intel quad nic. Currently hosts shared files, setting up as pfsense box in VM. Also acts as spare gaming PC with a 580 or whatever someone brings. Hooked into laptop dock area via usb switch

Cute, but doesn't apply to me. Was very nice to see the new addition to the family. Also I believe the part that parents are very susceptible to getting ripped off. I was thinking in the beginning if this helps with SIDS then maybe its worth it. Though you answered that in the review and too bad no trial period so your could return the tech at least.
