Froboy Joe

Hey, I need help and advise on a good choice for a gaming monitor under $300, and I also have TONS of questions that need to be answered.

Perhaps you should ask your apparent "TONS" of questions so we can answer them?

Good monitors don't make sense for consoles. You'd still be limited resolutionwise and frameratewise by the system, so you're not going to benefit from high resolutions or faster response times/ refresh frequencies. If you have any sort of monitor or a tv, use that.

Bring on the questions!

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

If the content is a lower refresh than your monitor, there would be no benefit, as the panel would only display the lower refresh.

This does change a bit with movies, since 24 fps divides evenly into 120 but not 60.

With games, the lower number wins as far as what gets displayed.

Don't listen to people saying its pointless to get a good monitor

Things that you should consider
~ >60hz will not be rendered by any console so 120 or 144hz monitors will not benefit you, unless you are getting a monitor with low display lag, monitors with less lag and fast G2G will benefit you as they get the picture to the screen faster and reduce input lag.

~ consoles won't go above 1080p so it wouldn't be wise to spend more than that, unless you were getting a 27"

So the best recommendation is a 1080p 60hz monitor with the lowest display lag

Intel i5-3570K/ Gigabyte GTX 1080/ Asus PA248Q/ Sony MDR-7506/MSI Z77A-G45/ NHD-14/Samsung 840 EVO 256GB+ Seagate Barracuda 3TB/ 16GB HyperX Blue 1600MHZ/  750w PSU/ Corsiar Carbide 500R

Well considering that even new gen consoles only have a resolution of 1080p at best and a frame rate of 60 fps(again tops), you only need a monitor that meets those specs. You could find a nice 27 inch IPS monitor for that price range under 300 that will easily meet those specs. I recommend checking out Asus on Newegg.

But spending as much as you can on it will probably get you the best picture quality you can have for your money.
