Chair chair chair.

JuztBe

Hello, I'm thinking of buying a new chair. Old one is almost broken

chair I'm using now looks similar3070-01_productcatalog.jpg

It's one of those looks good chairs. But is cheapest "looks good" chair is actually any good? How do you even decide if it's a good chair.
Got other offers? 50 pounds is a cap. Actually cheaper if possible would be better.

For that price buy what you can they all will be crap. If you spend a couple hours (2-3) max it should be fine for a year or two. Much more and it will get destroyed quick. Mine I am in 12+ hours a day and because of that I went with professional grade. Best chair I ever bought. Also the most I ever spent so trade offs.

The moment I saw the price on the ones you've listed... just no. You can't expect a quality product at that price. If I were you, I'd wait a little if you can't afford more for a chair atm until you can.

You'll be amazed at the difference of a good quality chair.

if you want a good chair for posture and that you can keep more than 6 months you should spend some more. http://www.gtomegaracing.com/ this is what i ordered but they are out of stock right now. from what ive heard theyre supposed to be pretty good and "alot" cheaper than need for seat with their horrendous prices.

I know. I can't possibly spend 500 bucks on a chair right now, and who knows for how much longer(student without a job).  I can't really wait for long to get new chair. I'm spend a lot of time programming and gaming, so my back starts hurting.  And if it's crap , maybe it's  better to get 20-30 pounds chair anyway?

I would suggest checking out Ikea for some chairs, but you'll get what you pay for.

No. I have a chair from them and it is amazingly uncomfortable, my back aches whenever I use it, it doesn't support my mothers weight, let alone my own, it creaks, and the arm rests are terrible. They don't rotate very well and one broke within a matter of weeks from just the usual use. They're overpriced and feel like a chair you can get for £50.

I have stopped using mine all together and gone back to using an old Ikea chair that has been in my house for about 16 years. It's not the most comfortable. But it isn't a mess like the GT Omega chair I have.

What do they know of England, who only England know?

All you need to know is that I am within the weight limit for the chair I have. And the fact that it doesn't support the weight is appalling. Heck, my friend sat on it yesterday when he was visiting. Being 170lbs himself, the chair began to collapse under him too.

Maybe there is an issue with your one? Because it should not be doing that under 80% of the max weight.

I've gone through 2 IKEA office chairs in the last 6 years, very good value for money.  I use them for gaming and as an occasional office chair when I work from home. One broke at the swivel plate (sent me flying backwards), the last one snapped the arm rest from leaning back.  I'm 6ft 2" and weigh about 200lbs.  IKEA no longer make the one I always bought, so I started shopping around, looking at various ones on eBay and Amazon.

In the end I decided to spend (more like invest) on a Maxnomic chair and all I can say is that it was definitely worth it.  It looks like a lot of money, but man is this thing comfortable. Steel frame construction and heavy base makes me think it will easily outlast a couple of IKEA chairs. It has a awesome presence in the home office too.  If you can stretch your budget, don't look at anything else, this will be the last chair you ever need to buy.

It really depends on how long you sit in your chair at one time. If you spend 5-6 hours a day at your desk, a good $300-$400 chair might be worth it, but if it's just 2 or 3 hours, don't invest too much.

I would suggest not buying a chair without first sitting in it and seeing if its comfortable to you.  Weight limit alone wont tell the whole story.  I like a chair that sits really low and a lot dont for example.  ID hit up an Office Depot or Staples or something where theyve got a ton of chairs out on display so you can get a feel for which ones youll like.  They aint all created equal, I know.  Ive bought a couple chairs over the years that wound up as donations to a buddy or something because they just werent comfortable over a long haul like a 9 hour Mass Effect marathon!  LOL!

BTW, look for used office furniture places and donated furniture places. It might get you something that fits your budget and much better quality. Actually sitting in it will be far better than taking advice over the net.
